June 6, 201412 yr I have a full blooded German Rottweiler who wouldn't harm anyone. I have a one year old who plays with him. It's terrible what happened to the girl but dogs are like people, if they aren't taught/raised correctly, they do bad things and deserve to be put down.

And if you train them right they can be pretty cool dogs. Pitbulls on the other hand were bred for aggression. I don't know why people feel the need to own them because I've hardly ever heard a good story about them.

People's won't let their kids pet my dog at Petsmart and I had to fight with my homeowners insurance to include my Rott. I just think it's tough to discriminate any breed cause there are good Pits out there and good Rotts. There's just a ton of BAD owners. Make me a congressman and I would have the owners charged. There would be 50% less negligent ownership.

June 6, 201412 yr First, terrible about the little girl. About pit bulls, I'll never convince anybody about how they are and can be normal pets, so I won't waste my time. All I'll say is I've been around plenty of them, and NONE of them were threatening in the slightest. It's all about how they are raised and trained. You can train any big dog to be vicious... Pit bulls get the bad rap because of their size and because of people using them to fight. And b/c if they attack, they maim. There is very little you can do to ward them off. There's no reason to have that type of risk anywhere around children. If you are going to have one, fine. Just don't bring it into a neighborhood.

June 6, 201412 yr Yes sir, the only dog I'm afraid of is a German Shepherd. A ticked off GShep is very very intimidating. They are. I think when you own more than 1 aggressive type, like a German Shepard, Rottweiler, Husky, whatever, I think that they get into a pack mentality, no matter how they are raised. Heck, we have that w/ our Golden Doodle and my in-laws dogs (Australian Shepard and Ausie Doodle....scary huh?). Whenever my wife's aunt and uncle and cousins bring their dogs, our side of the family's dogs are very aggressive.
June 6, 201412 yr Pit bulls were bred to attack large game. German Shepards were bred to herd sheep. Any dog feeling threatened is pretty scary, but the temperament of a German Shepard is better than a pitbull
