June 5, 201412 yr A couple of steps back? I'm not entirely sure what you're asking, but if you are asking if I'm making a prediction now lower than the $18 million I threw out earlier, yes, I think Andy and his team want it done and will give a little to make that happen. I think they are more worried about the guaranteed portion than the overall / annual total, that is why I think they will get that number at around $45 million. If you meant something else, I apologize.

June 5, 201412 yr ........ I still think there is virtually zero chance he suits up in game #1 without an extension. To answer the question at hand, what he'd get on the open market today, is what I think he'll end up with here -- something around $96 million for 6 years with about $45 million guaranteed. I think you are too low. I think it will be 107M- 50M guaranteed 6 years. He'd get that on the market too. I believe the Mike Brown is thankful he won't have to consider 20M per. He will sign before training Camp. Cutler, Stafford, and now Kap are driving this. Numbers compare to them
June 5, 201412 yr The problem for QB deals is there isnt a secondary level for them. You either get payed the big bucks or you dont make it. Andy will make that money if he can produce like he has been, even though I cant stand him
June 5, 201412 yr Author No way Dalton holds out. If there is no new contract and he has another season like his first three, he gains even more leverage. If he holds out, he gains nothing, especially dealing with Mikey. They'll let him sit and roll with whoever.
June 5, 201412 yr If he wins the SB I wouldn't care if they paid him $30M a year and never made another one. It would all be gravy. That is the gamble Mike Brown is going to make. He's hedging an extra 5-25 mill that it doesn't happen. If it does happen, Brown wins anyway.
June 6, 201412 yr I have questioned Dalton a lot the last few years because he drives me nuts in big games because he presses and tries to do to much in every big game instead of just playing his game. With that said in the playoff game in the first half I thought he actually played really well and calm. It was not until the Chargers got the lead when he started to press. So I do think he is starting to show signs of learning to play in big games. I don't know why but I am starting to think he will put it all together finally this year.
