June 5, 201412 yr I didn't see a thread on this. Let's get all the Dalton contract talk in one place. Here is the question I have for everyone. If Dalton were a free agent right now, what would he get as an offer? Whatever that number is, that is what he is worth.
June 5, 201412 yr Personally, I'd say he is worth about $7 million/year because he hasn't proven to make any more than that. I'd give him a 5 years/$35 million and I'd only go up to $40 million MAX and nothing more than that. If he wanted more, he could just walk.
June 5, 201412 yr I disagree because he is already under contract. At this moment Dalton is worth what the Bengals say he is worth. I really believe both sides should let this season play out then Dalton's actual worth with be apparent because he will be a Free Agent and because we will have one more year of work to consider.
June 5, 201412 yr Author I am not asking what everyone thinks he is worth or what you would give him. If he were a free agent right now, what would he get in the marketplace?
June 5, 201412 yr I am not asking what everyone thinks he is worth or what you would give him. If he were a free agent right now, what would he get in the marketplace? I'd say some team would probably give him $10 million/year... So maybe 4 years/$40 million or 5 years/$50 million?
June 5, 201412 yr He would get something under Kaepernick's contract. There is no doubt, he would. Like him or not he has numbers that cannot be ignored. They are n line with or better than Kap's. The only difference is playoff wins, that's big, but believe me there are lots of teams that would like to have three straight playoff appearances.
June 5, 201412 yr Market value probably somewhere in the vicinity of 5 years 80 million. Which nuts, IMO. But then again, it wouldn't surprise me nowadays with how teams from every professional sport throw money around nowadays.
June 5, 201412 yr Author Market value probably somewhere in the vicinity of 5 years 80 million. I agree. I see at least $15-16M per year. Houston, Minnesota (others?) would be all over getting him and would pay close to Kaepernick money to get him. Like it or not, that is what he is going to get paid by somebody somewhere.

Like it or not, that is what he is going to get paid by somebody somewhere. Then let it be there. Houston proved you can't win really big with Schaub or someone like him making the middle to upper amount. The way to win is either have Manning/Brady or get lucky with a rookie deal.

Totally agree but it's a bad business move for Dalton. Id hold out for the big pay day now, if he is shaky again this year (well the 2nd half) he won't be worth anything.
June 5, 201412 yr As long as he doesn't win the Super Bowl, he is isn't going to get much more with a good year in 2014/15, than he would if the Bengals signed him tomorrow. So far it seems Mikey Brown is betting on the he doesn't win the SB side of it.

June 5, 201412 yr ........ I still think there is virtually zero chance he suits up in game #1 without an extension. To answer the question at hand, what he'd get on the open market today, is what I think he'll end up with here -- something around $96 million for 6 years with about $45 million guaranteed.
