May 22, 201412 yr I saw this one floating around on Facebook. I need you guys to discredit it for me. I'm sure this is misinformation or false numbers or something. I mean this can't be factual can it????? I'm on midnight shift and headed to bed so I'll see how it is discredited when I wake up later. Thanks.
May 22, 201412 yr Too bad he can't run again. His slogan could be. "Started from the bottom now we here" Drake as VP.
May 22, 201412 yr Too bad he can't run again. His slogan could be. "Started from the bottom now we here" Drake as VP. Drake would be a terrible VP. He'd show up to work a few times but within a couple weeks he'd be trying to be Vice President of Mexico.
May 22, 201412 yr Where is the list of dead Embassy people? Where is the list of scandals? Where is the list of most times at golf course? Approval rating?

May 22, 201412 yr One of my big problems with both the president and Congress since the housing market collapse is reflected in that first number. The markets are through the roof and yet overall the numbers suggest that this recovery has not only been slow by the standards of what a healthy economy should look like, but slow by the standards of emerging from other recessions. Government jobs took a big hit in 2009/2010, which is unlike other recessions historically, where the public sector has picked up at least a bit of slack. Part of it has just been an all-to-quick shift in which unskilled labor jobs have disappeared because the economy no longer supports them. They would have disappeared eventually, but the credit crunch made them all go away at once. The reason it's frustrating is that the folks at the top(some of whom were at the root of that collapse) have done very well for themselves coming out of the crash and markets have boomed. The rest of the economy has not fared so well. The Dow is not an indicator of broad economic health for the county; it's simply an indicator of how markets are performing. We've done very little to shore up the weak points in our economy going forward.

May 22, 201412 yr The Federal deficit is 63% higher now than it was when the President took office. The Federal debt owed to the public has increased 95% since the President took office. The civilian labor force participation rate is as low as it's been since 1978, declining 1.5% under Bush & 2.9% under Obama. The number of long-term unemployed is double what it was when the President took office. The number of Americans on food stamps has increased by 13 million since the President took office (15% of the U.S. population receives food stamps). Obama?s Numbers (January 2014 Update)
May 22, 201412 yr ^ I mention all of that not to be a poop head to my man PP92. I'm just presenting another side of the story. I didn't vote for Obama & believe he pretty much sucks as a President. I did vote for Bush (twice) & believe he pretty much sucked as President too.
May 22, 201412 yr I have always heard that the unemployment numbers that are usually touted, really should be taken with a grain of salt. If I remember correctly, they only account for new people that have filed claims, or maybe those who are currently receiving benefits. But either way, what they don't take into consideration, is the number of people who have been without work long enough to exhaust their benefits.
May 23, 201412 yr Author Why would it/should it be discredited? The numbers seem factual to me. What do you think it tells us? I'm not sure what it tells us. I just know that it is being touted as an "Obama is doing a good job" look at the numbers and while I am admittedly pro-Obama I'm sure there is another side of the story concerning those numbers. I came here for that side of the story.

There are different measures that paint a true picture. The UE rate we're used to is just one of the numbers.
May 23, 201412 yr The improvement in the US economy has happened in spite of Obama's efforts. The Dow has improved in part that interest rates are so low that investors have gone to stocks for investments. While there has been some improvement in jobs creation, a good part of the unemployment rate going down is due to people who have given up looking for work. A lot of jobs have been created in the oil and gas industries despite of Obama's dislike for these industries. Most of the new jobs have been created in states like Texas, the Dakotas, Ohio and others using programs that Obama also dislikes. The GDP is down because the people demanded something be done. The sequester helped, the winding down of some of Obama's programs and partly because of the very slow improvement of the economy. To be honest I cannot believe that consumer is 78%. While the economy is better, it just does not seem to be that good, unless many are willing to pull out the credit cards. Maybe things just seem better compared to the past few years and people want to be optimistic.
