Re-evaluate what? If 3 must play 4 and 5 must play 6 in the best interests of 5A and 6A football?

I guess that explains why the playoffs are different for 6a.

3A Region 2 will be a gauntlet.

Play where your numbers indicate you should play and live with it. They opened Pandora's box when they let schools "choose" what they wanted to do.

Seems to me that a three or four seed in the playoffs already took some lumps in district play and so isn't really in much of a position to worry about who they might have to play anywhere past round two or so...

4 seeds especially. Typically there are some pretty good 3 seeds. I'm reminded of Mercer County last year, who really started playing well late in the season after a tough start. But they had already lost to Boyle and Catholic, locking them in as a #3. They won their opener then won at Boyle, but a second tough road game was too difficult to overcome.

Who was that? We've had this discussion on BGP before but I can't remember who the 4 was. I know Bourbon County in 1997 is often mistakenly listed as a 4-seed, but in actuality they were a 3.

For some reason I think there is another one from semi recently as well.

I do not see where they ruled on Grant County's request to move up to 6a. Grant County said if they could not move up they would play as an independent. That will leave Highlands, Dixie, and Cov Cath in a three team district.

 

You're right. I didn't see that anywhere either. I wonder if that wouldn't move Oldham or South Oldham from 5A district 3 into district 5 with Highlands, Dixie, and Cov Cath.

Mr. Tackett,

 

With the redistricting of football for 2015, I wanted to see what some of our options at Grant

County would be. We are a 5A school, but football is not the main sport here and probably never

will be. Also, we are a rural school district. As far as the number of our students who participate in

football is concerned, we are more of a 3A or even a 2A school in reality. Last year in our district

we were outscored on average of 48-7. We don't anticipate being able to compete any better by

having to play traditional football powers such as Highlands and Covington Catholic. I have seen

the athletes that our boys have to compete against and they are just usually so much bigger and

stronger than our boys, let alone much quicker. As a result we get more injuries (and players

quitting) and by the end of the season we are just depleted. Our coaches here do a wonderful job,

but they are just able to do so much.

 

I wanted to see what are options might be. Our coach has wondered if we might even be better

off by playing up at 6A with the feeling we can likely compete better against the schools we have

been playing against than against Highlands, Covington Catholic, and Dixie.

 

Would it also be possible for us to play for a few years without being eligible to the playoffs while we try to build a

football program here that will compete?

Hi Steve,

 

Right now, there are two schools that have made the request to the Board of Control that schools that withdraw from play are only out 2 years. That seems fair to all involved as it addresses the contract cycle.

 

If you are sincerely interested in playing up, I would make that request with a letter to me and email it in within the next day or so. Otherwise, I would write a note on letterhead that simply asks for permission to be out only two years if you withdraw. You wouldn't be officially withdrawing at that point, just requesting. That way, if they happen NOT to approve the twp year provision (instead of four), then we can come back to you and see what you want to do.

Mr. Tackett,

 

After sharing your e-mail from this week with our head football coach, I request that Grant County

move up to class 6A for football. We feel that doing so is in the best interests of our program. If

this is not possible, then we would like to be able to participate as an independent for two years and

then reevaluate where our program is.

 

Please let me know if you need anything else from us regarding this issue.
