I think you are painting with a broad brush here. In Greenup County, we have, and have had, several very capable, well trained, and productive constables. One in particular, was a constable for 20 years, attended hundreds of hours of law enforcement training at DOCJT in Richmond and worked tirelessly to save the county thousands, probably millions of dollars in paper service.

 

I also have a friend in another county that is a constable, is trained, and works about 20 hours a week serving papers for the county so that the sheriff's office can focus on other tasks.

 

Constables are peace officers the same as the sheriff.

In Nelson County, they slapped a massive six-figure bond in order to deter the yayhoos from playing policeman.

Sadly, I would have to agree with you. But, we have to recognize there are good and bad sheriffs, police chiefs, jailers and constables. The person dictates the office, not the office dictating the person.

I'd say that's a pretty sad reflection on the voters of CC.

 

Not really. It was a quickly put together special election. A former County Commissioner ran against him as no one else had any time to get prepared for a run. It's a sad reflection on the politics of Campbell County. Can't blame this one on the voters.

Not a fan of Kidwell; not at all. Don't agree with how he has used his position as the head of the CC Republican Exec Committee; not a fan of his attempt to mis-lead the voters. Every time I see his picture of him wearing a Smokey hat, I chuckle. He definitely has a "wanna be cop" disorder and I'll definitely be voting for Jansen as Sheriff.

Kind of funny the police unions saying it's all about integrity. Got to love CC politics. It's always been about the race to the bottom around here.

 

I'll respectfully disagree; well at least partially. I'm pretty tuned in to CC politics. We've had some very good elected officials in CC and have some really good one's now. Pendery has done an outstanding job as the Judge Executive, even though I've disagreed strongly with some of his positions (the anti smoking ordinance for example). By a wide margin, the positives way exceed the negatives. Daley has done a great job as jailer, which in my opinion, can be the second most important position in the County because of the cost of running the jail and the impact of the jailer on controlling those costs. Nothing against "one of our own" Guidugli, but Daley is WAY more qualified: former KSP officer, ran the N. Ky Drug Strike Force; and an attorney. All of which help him considerably in the position of jailer. Guidugli's qualifications? Good guy and a tough nose son of a gun. Daley all the way for me. Garrett, Painter and Rechtin have done a very nice job as County Commissioners (although Rechtin has recently converted to campaign mode as he will be on the ballot in November as the D candidate for Judge Executive). Braun does a really nice job as the PVA. Franzen does a nice job as the County Attorney. Snodgrass does a nice job as County Clerk (but is not running for re-election if my memory serves me correctly). We've got well qualified people serving as the Circuit Court and District Court judges. So in my opinion at least, we have one of the best group of elected officials in CC that I can remember.

 

We do have some folks involved in CC politics that I'm not particularly proud of, such as Kidwell. For the most part, those folks have remained marginalized, but they have been able to exercise some influence (which is concerning). Which is why voters must turn out on the 20th and vote to keep those folks from having more influence and to keep the well performing elected officials in office.

That is abuse of office and some kind of self dealing that is probably border line criminal IMO. Since he's been in office I don't know of anyone else in Campbell county whos property has decreased in value. Mine are up 25% with his latest assessment. His home which was valued at $312,052.00 in 2010 is now $125,000.00. He won't be getting my vote.

I would agree with most of your opinions on most of the candidates, but not this one. I like Daley, good guy, lots of experience in law enforcement, but a career public entity. I don't think you can hire the guy the fired from the Grant County jail, just because he was a State Trooper and Jailer, and put him as your number 1 guy in the day to day operations of the CC Jail. Kellam is a non-performer and should not be there.

 

The jail has some significant issues that are not being addressed and many people know it. The medical department is one more accidental death lawsuit away from bankrupting the county, prisoners are lost or misplaced all the time, the overhead for hiring staff is through the roof.

 

The jail is poorly run, period. With the proposed addition of the SAP program it's about to get way out of control, just that NorthKey will be able to pad their pocket more.

 

CC Jail is marginal at best. Nothing against Daley personally, great guy, not sure that Guidigli is the guy either so it's a lesser of two evils.

 

County Commissioners have done little to nothing in the county over past 4 years. Painter is non-existent. I believe it's time for a change in that area. This county needs to have business brought in and stimulate the economic growth, not be worrying about a bridge that we have no control over the tolls or no tolls.

I whole heartedly agree with Jim here. I know there was a big push to do away with the office a couple of years ago. If not done away with I'd like to see the job description more defined and any and all actual enforcement duties done away with, which some counties may have actually done.

 

Just an example. Constable in Franklin County, at the request of the Sherriff's office I would suppose, helps direct traffic at this particular church as it lets out, located out in the county. Have had several people say he has probably caused as much trouble as he has stopped, and the way he positions himself in traffic has made himself a hazard. Very doubtful he has had any type of training. And also personally knowing someone who has held a constable position in Anderson County...lets just say it helped form my position on the matter.

I don't know, but even so it doesn't pass the smell test. He has his 5 year old custom built home that is quite a bit larger than my home which is a very simple brick ranch, valued at around the same value. I just looked at the public data available on his website, no explaination is given as to the decrease on the website.
