Matts mustangs blew a huge lead. Lou Spartans showed lotta heart and advanced!

The ville and hoop dreams orange seem to be on a collision course in the semis which may be for all the marble in 17u..HD orange may have a little too much depth for the ville but their coach has to use it.. Ville plays well together as you can tell the group has been playing together forever!

Just saw where Travelers lost in first round of tourney play (17U). Still question why they played up.

No problem rscherr.. If you left at halftime you would have bet the house on the mustangs! Unbelievable turnaround

Travelers had zero chance to win 17u..wouldn't have won the 16u IMO . Maybe that's why they play 17u. Hmmmm very interesting thought!!

Travelers just didn't have the players to play in 17s this year. They might have done well in 16s but the competition in 17s is really at a high level this year. Louisville Magic just don't have enough quality players for legal 17s AAU.

 

Ville vs Hoop Dreams will be a game to watch. Death will not be a issue, Ville plays at a high level with the 8 player they have.

I hope death is not an issue!! Ha.but you are probably right. They don't seem to get tired. 8 is a good rotation number

The Ville looked good tonight, Evan Hall tore the goal down on a dunk attempt. I still think Hoop Dreams with Tyler,Taylor and crew will have the upper hand. They know each other so well, and you can't give Tyler an inch or you will pay. Taylor is such a game control point guard. I don't think I saw another team with a combo as good as them!

The NKY Bulldogs have had much better weekends in the W/L column. These kids will bounce back with no problem!

 

That said... I see a lot of talk and debate on here about best PGs in the state... Austin Schreck runs the point for the Bulldogs and he put some teams on notice this weekend. He is a lanky, 6'3, high IQ ball player who looks to get his teammates good looks. He is a high level player who can also defend.

 

He had 9, 6, 5 against the Ville and defended Levitch pretty well. He had 13, 5, 5 against The Retros, added 16 with multiple rebounds/assts against TOP Select, and also held Jeremiah Tisdale to 4 pts, while scoring 17, 4, 6, and going 3/3 from 3. Also, had a really nice double-cross over that sent his defender to the deck, while he rose up and drilled a 15-footer. This kid will continue to have a break out summer, and with Hatton gone will be part of a lead role at Dixie Heights.

 

The Ville, the Retros, and Hoop Dreams Black, are 3 nice teams, and the Bulldogs played with all of them. If another call or two went their way, or an extra shot or two fell, 2 of those 3 games are wins. As it is... they go 1-3, and have no excuses. They live to fight another day and will.

I watched that game. Spartans played well, but it was really badly officiated. Really, it was terrible. The refs let the Spartans play really physical while Matts got called for a foul if there was any contact. There was also a blatant goal tend on the Spartans that didn't get called, and on the potential game winning play for matts, the Spartans had 6 players on the floor, but it didn't get called either. Both of those teams are really good. It's a shame unqualified refs get to work tournaments that matter so much. I have no tie to either team, so I didn't lose any sleep over it. But I was really looking forward to a Matts/Louisville Magic championship game. I'll probably head back up today and watch some games. I enjoyed being able to watch all the marquee teams in their pool games. Whoever does the scheduling at KBA, does a great job. But that nightcap ruined the day. That Matts team is really dynamic. I also saw that the Travelers didn't so hot playing 17u. But that's ok... "We were playing up" was uttered a few times I'm sure.

Travelers are fine.... They were down 3 of their better players. Dylan James their starting PF had to go home and missed the game, Jimmy Greer their starting PG was injured and couldn't play, and Kel Stotts their leading scorer went down right before halftime with an injury. How many teams do you know of that can lose 3 starters and still be as competitive? That being said, they still could have and should have won that game. They will bounce back next week and be fine. Good luck to the rest of the teams still in the Tourney!
