Jeff Trame led his team to the state tournament ask him what he thinks of Andrew, who plays on a loaded Kentucky Colonels team. Andrew was one of the top hitters as well as one of the best pitchers on the team this year.

 

FYI. At Ludlow a routine fly ball can turn into a homerun. A very shallow fence.

So what's your point? That one player is better than the other? They are two different style ball players and both good at what they do.

Lol, what fence? Only half the field has a fence, the other half is a back yard lol. Although I have fond memories of playing in the river there. Had my only HR playing knothole back in the day and it was also my kids first varsity game he ever started as a freshman playing there.

Evan Slone (Ludlow) and Jake Ziegelmeyer (Ryle) both got solid, positive evaluations from the PBR Top Prospect Games at WKU.

Also saw via friends on Facebook that Evan Slone was just invited by Under Armour to participate in the Baseball Factory National World Series this year.

Combs and Stringer just participated in the area code tryouts. Thats a big deal, as this region is hosted by white sox, and is invite only, and that invite has to come from a pro scout. Only a handful of 16 kids invited, and all 30 mlb teams as well as countless college scouts attend. If they make it, they will travel to long beach for the actual games. Very rare for a non rising senior to make it, save the elite pitcher or perhaps catcher, so I dont look for the invite, but just to attend sets them in elite company. This event is free, that sets it apart from others as a true scouting event as opposed to a money grab. Congrats boys, way to represent.

This year it was at Grand Park in Westfield, In, which is an awesone new facility. PBR is holding tbeir futures games there this year, which pits the top uncommitted 16s and a couple 17s from all the states it covers. As for the AC games, I believe last year Kentucky only had one kid survive cuts, Micah Minnard. I would think riley Thompson would be a safe bet this year, if he desires to do it.

Just an FYI... I measured the fences at Ludlow with a friend today... Yes there are fences for all fields.

 

The left field fence line is 315 ft, deepest part of park is left center at 390 ft, and right field line fence is 270 ft.

Original Yankee Stadium was 295 ft down left and 281 ft down right... Guess a lot of Ruth and Gehrig's home runs shouldn't count.

I've been watching high school games at Ludlow for over 15 years and I've seen very few home runs... The field plays a lot bigger than it is (usually due to wind off the river)....And it is bigger than it looks.

A home run is a home run, but remember Ruth and Gehrig hit home runs with bats and balls nowhere the quality we have now. Little hard to compare. I haven't seen a high school game at Ludlow's field, but I know I seen u12 teams hitting it to the RF/RC fence several years back. I was surprise the u12 players were not hitting it over. At these games, If the pitcher had a little more velocity, I might have seen some of these 12 yr olds sending one. Hard to get a hitter to stay back and stroke one.

The only two home runs at Ludlow this year were hit by Ludlow players; one in the park and one over the fence. Ludlow pitchers gave up no home runs at Ludlow (to be honest I'm not sure they gave any up this season, but I wasn't at every away game so I could very well be wrong). Also fwiw, my son played at Highland Park this weekend in a tourney--I'm not convinced the right field fence is much longer there, maybe 10 feet or so. But, I do have old eyes and again could be wrong

Yeah, the only home run hit this season was Slone's. It was to right center, so prob about 285 to fence... Was prob about a 300 ft shot and it was against a very good pitcher in Brian Dill from Bellevue.

I believe there was only 1 hit out at Ludlow last season too. And I've never seen a multiple hr game there. Good teams like Dixie were there this season too.

Telling you, it's not a deep fence in right, but a "routine" fly ball won't make it out as some have said.

The only comparison I was making is if a short fence in the pros is acceptable, so should a short fence in high school be accepted. IMO, a 270 ft hit by a kid is more impressive than a 300 ft hit by a grown man hall of famer... That's all.

We played a double header this summer at Ludlow. That right field fence is pretty short compared to many fields we have been on. Not as many left hand batters as Right so it is hard to take advantage. Most right handers power is left center and left.

Agree it is a short porch... But 270 ft is further than most would think when they see the field, prob due to the all dirt infield. And again, been watching games there for over 15 years and even lefties have hit very few home runs in that time. Really just an FYI meant for Sportsfan and Hellbird... I don't PM people on here. And they seemed to think a routine fly ball can easily turn into a hr at Ludlow... Which the facts point out, it rarely happens.

 

Same at Bellevue's field. I've heard people say how easy it is to hit home runs there. And truth is, there have been 5 or 6 total hit there in the last 3 years as well.
