Pat Tillman Died Ten Years Ago Today

Featured Replies

I put this under GD instead of NFL because Pat seemed like the kind of cat who would never want to be limited and called just "an NFL player."

He died at the hands of friendly fire on 4.22.04. ESPN will air an interview with one of Pat's Ranger teammates who may have been the one who fired the fatal shot.

I cannot recommend the book "Where Men Win Glory" highly enough. It will make you laugh, cry, be infuriated, and proud.

Where Men Win Glory: The Odyssey of Pat Tillman: Jon Krakauer: 9780307386045: Amazon.com: Books

This was the absolute correct place to start this thread. Pat Tillman was a Ranger who also happened to be a NFL football player, not a NFL football player who happened to be a Ranger.

They had the interview, I'm assuming its the same one, on Sports Reporters or OTL on Sunday morning. It was good stuff.

I'll have to look into that book.

I will never forget an interview I heard on the Jim Rome radio show a couple months after Tillman left the Az Cardinals to join the military. It was from a player with the Cardinals at the time, his name escapes me but he was a pro bowl player etc. and how he went on and on in the interview how much he couldn't stand Tillman because he was a quitter in his eyes and then he said he wasn't really good as a player in the first place etc. he kept bashing Tillman, he was a comp, ete jerk and I never forgot that and never cared for this player after that.

Tillman was such a hero, he and his brother both joined the same time all because of 9/11. Wish there were more athletes like him. What a great person and great sacrifice he made for this country.

He was an exceptional soldier and made the NFL a better place during his time there. I think it is difficult for some to understand how he could have died from friendly fire, but when you understand the situations it is more clear. It is unfortunate that he died, it may be just as unfortunate for the soldier firing on their position that he has to live with it.

It's unfortunate the military tried to cover it up. He was a true hero and role model and absolute true American.

Very disappointed in the cover up.

A hero. He has my respect.

Pat Tillman, thank you for your service.

Has anyone been to the Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge constructed just above the Hoover Dam? I've been there a couple of times. It's an awesome bridge and a great tribute to Tillman.

Found the book on Amazon for really cheap and purchased it yesterday. Thanks for the recommendation Clyde.

In the special I saw on Sunday, they not only interviewed one of the guys that was shooting on Tillman's position, but they interviewed another solider that was with Tillman in that position. Seemed like he struggled quite a bit with the fact that he survived and Tillman didn't. Said he still won't talk to the guys who fired upon him and said he doesn't understand how they couldn't take five more seconds to realize what they were doing.

Just got done reading this. Can't imagine what it was like texting each other.

Read this link that Deimos posted. The bolded has actually changed since the interviews aired.
