April 22, 201412 yr Great points above. I agree with you on all counts except the Bailey contract. You might end up being right but given Homers track record for improvement I think it was a good decision considering what starting pitching is getting paid these days.

April 22, 201412 yr So you're saying Homer hasn't been consistent enough to give him the money but you want to throw it at Cingrani who has yet to pitch a full year in the bigs and Cueto who hasn't stayed healthy in 2 years. It was a tough decision to let Choo go but it was necessary. If we woulda locked up Choo, someone woulda found a way to complain about it, despite productivity (see Votto, Joey)
April 22, 201412 yr Homer has the best stuff on the team. It's still, and always has been, a matter of what's between the ears with him IMO. Chapman has the best stuff on the team. Undeniable. And a credit to the front office that he's part of the Reds, not part of the Red Sox. But I agree to an extent with your point. I hope I'm wrong about Homer. However, I doubt it. I simply don't see how you throw that $ at that guy when all indicators are that what you've seen is what you get. In a small market, that's a tough decision to make. Hope it pans out. I'll be the first to say I'm wrong if it does.

Top loaded with division games, which they are not winning. Of course they never beat the Cards. They need to split in Pitt. If they aren't careful, they will be out of the race sooner than later.

I would counter with I agree that he has major league "stuff". I am not convinced that he has the best stuff on the staff and I am very confident that he does not use his stuff in a consistent manner. I am rooting for him to succeed but I am not encouraged that he will succeed to the money that is being paid.
