You gotta think Meso moves in the lineup today, don't you?

 

Didn't Price say something like "I like having good hitters throughout the lineup" because if so it sounds like he might be stuck there again. I actually like how Price has handled the lineup thus far, but I think it's getting a little "too cute" keeping the hottest hitter in baseball that far down the lineup.

Yes, but things have got to change, and soon, this has been the same team for about the last 5 years. Yet they still haven't won a playoff series yet. I keep hearing how much talent this team has, and I just don't see it. Think this team has also tied an anchor around it's neck for the next six years, by re-signing Bailey, I would have never done it. This team also needs to trade for a big bat in LF, and I don't care what anybody says, I don't think Frazier is the answer at 3rd either. Just sick of this franchise slowly turning into the Bengals right in front of our eyes, and I do NOT like the Bengals, at all. Tough times still to come, and don't give me the " Yeah, but it's better then the 90's was." Don't be satisfied with just getting there, do something when you get there, I.E. see the Cardinals for details. UHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhggggggggggggggggg.

 

1. Who are you realistically going to trade/trade for? Key word being realistically. You mentioned Stanton yesterday, but if you are realistic, you know that was never going to happen. And know that it's not likely we had the prospects to make it work anyways (i.e. young, controllable, talented prospects... plural)

 

2. We are NOT the Cardinals. Different market size. Different type of fan base. Different type of system. Now, do I wish our minor league system looked like the Cards does? Sure. But us and about 29 other teams can say that.

 

I'll tell ya this, I don't think the answer is to sell out with trades for one year. We did that a few years back and gave up a great young pitcher for a solid reliever because it filled a hole. What we ended up with was an 'all in' bust. We got Sean Marshall and his overworked, sore arm. We gave up an All Star LH Starting Pitcher.

 

We won 91 and 97 games the last two years. If you want to jump off the ship, go for it. I'm not...

I'd realistically think about putting him at least at cleanup. Heck, maybe even the 3 hole.

Well, obviously this pace will fade, but Meso has the ability to see pitches with runners on base in the 4hole and have a huge year. Sure do miss Handoza.

I think we also have to mention the terrible at bat Cozart had late in the game. I like Cozart as an 8 hitter and defender, but they were trying to walk him last night and he swung at a 2-0 garbage pitch on his hands and popped up with two guys on base. Where is his baseball IQ??

That seems to be lacking a lot thus far this year....

I think Lizard has some very valid points although most on here do not want to hear them. The Cardinals would not have tied themselves up with the Bailey contract and went out and found a piece in left field that would help the team or would have made the tough decision to ride Baileys current contract and then use that money on other players that are more consistent and would anchor the staff or line up for years. The Cardinals are not that much bigger market than the Reds, they just sign tougher players and make the tough decisions that help their club. (See Pujols, Edmonds, Beltran, Freese, Ludwick, etc, etc, etc)

Who were you going to sign to play left? What were you going to do with the money left on Ludwick's contract? Who was going to fill the rotation? (someone is going to say Simon... hindsight is 20/20. No one knew Simon was going to pitch like this, plus he's only got 3 starts under his belt.)

 

I'm not saying I disagree. I'm saying that there are a lot of teams that would've signed Homer just like the Reds did. Heck, a lot of teams would've paid him more.

Addendum: Maybe I wouldn't have signed Bailey to that contract. But that's the way the Reds are going. By that logic, they should've never signed Votto. The main difference in the Reds and the Cards to me is that the Cards are pushing talent out of the minor leagues like it's water. And the hit on a couple of chances they took. (ex: No one knew Beltran was going to be the player he was for the last few years.) Heck a lot of Cards fans hate the guy they signed to a big, long contract (Holliday).

The sign and trade was a little off, no doubt but some of the other points Lizard makes, although a little crude at times, has some validity.
