April 24, 201412 yr To follow up on that Hoover has 2 blown saves, Parra and Ondrusek have one each. Guarantee you it's not 4 for 4 in the 9th. So just like I've said anyone that's good can pitch the 9th. Not good in the 8th and not good in the 9th with the lead is still not good.

That would be fantastic. Broxton was signed to be a closer, and they spent closer money on him. The argument some of you have used before is "Just about anybody can close", not anyone that's good can close.

The topic is tired and silly. If it was that easy, there wouldn't be closers. But again, they just do it for a living, they don't know what they're doing.

Anyone you would trust in the 8th inning of a close game you can trust in the 9th usually. Obviously it's a tad different. But it's severely over rated by some people.

Why then do closers turn over far far more than starters? Why is it easier for guys not good enough to start have an easier time closing than vice Versa? Why does a team like Tampa that's really smart use a new closer almost every year while almost never re-signing relief pitchers find ways to win and close games?

The same Rays that outside of one magical run to the World Series haven't won a playoff series in franchise history? Seems to be working out great for them...
