Hank Aaron and his KKK comments on Republicans

Featured Replies

We all have life experiences that most others would never understand. I could never understand what Hank Aaron went through. I would never try to say I did. But it doesn't excuse him from labeling half this country in a hateful manner.

Personally, I have never been threatened with lynching or had slurs shouted at me because of my color. I've also never had sit separate from people of another color, been denied lodging because of my color, told I couldn't use the public restroom because of my color. The days of segregation where hateful, hateful days for those who lived through them, especially those the victims of such attitudes. There is NOTHING I've experienced that could compare with the total debasing of my humanity based upon my skin color. I suspect most of us have no idea what an impact that would have had on us in our futures.

I didn't say ALL the venom spewed at Obama was racist in nature. Just most. It's okay to admit it .We all are racists. We can't help it. It's ignorant and foolish but we are what we are. Now, most people are not flaming racists but we all have our biases. It's a weakness, a human fraility. No need to dress it up as a big red herring in the room.

So, you are not "wild about Harry." I'm shocked. :lol2: I bet Barney Franke was not a fave either. Now, that's a bias for another day and another thread.

Even if what you say is true it still does not equal a majority of republicans not liking Obama has anything to do with race. 1 + 1 doesn't equal 3. The same republicans who dislike Obama are the same republicans who disliked Clinton dislike Reid dislike Pelosi . The only thing that changed in the reasons for dislike is a liberal excuse to use race . I dislike Obama the politician because I believe he is a poor leader , has a bad agenda and I feel his policies have hurt the economy. He could be white green or yellow that wouldn't change my disapproval for Obama.

So when I didn't like John Kerry or Al Gore did that have to do with my hatred for middle aged white men. When liberals attacked Bush and called him Hitler was that because of a liberal racial bias against white people from Texas. You point is invalid and lacks any substance or proof.

Again I never denied any of this still doesn't excuse him from becoming exactly what he supposedly hates.

You cannot possibly fathom what that does to a person.

This may be semantics, but I disagree that everyone is a racist, at least as far as "negativity" is concerned. To me, that means you hold the same unfavorable position for every person of that race. There are no exceptions. Are there that type of people out there? Certainly. But, I don't think you can say it's everyone.

However, I do fully and completely agree that human nature allows for everyone to have prejudices and, in the end, may make us very well biased against a "group" of people. But, I think that group is usually much more defined in nature.

Now, on the opposite end of the spectrum, I do believe we might all be racist in the "positive" way. And by that, I mean, we're obviously most familiar with the race that we are, and so if there's a race that we may "promote" and gravitate towards, it's probably going to be that race. And at the heart of it, there's nothing wrong with that. I think you should be proud of who you are, whatever race you are. What makes it wrong, (and then turns it into a "negative") is when some people take that self-promotion to the extreme, and feel that their particular race is superior to another race (or even, every other race).

Does that make sense? Like I said, some of it may be semantics.

I'm going to have to agree with this. I don't like Obama the President, just as I didn't like Bush the President, but I'm extremely confident I'd thoroughly enjoy sitting down shooting the breeze over a couple cold ones with both men. Seem like good, cool people.

You cannot possibly fathom what that does to a person.

You keep repeating this over and over. I've admitted that. So are you saying this excuses his actions?

First like most UN reports they are not done very well. Secondly Cuba and many of the countries that are supposedly ahead of the United States do not give care to all citizens and do not report all deaths. If you want to go down this rode with Cuba we can but this is a flawed argument and if I were for government health care I wouldn't use Cuba as my argument like Michael Moore. He went to Cuba as was fooled by a couple of the good hospitals they have for the wealthy.
And you know this because
And you know this because

There are multiple studies out there , I read.

There are multiple studies out there , I read.
What ?
There's that and there's also a concept I'm a big believer in, the idea of an historical memory or cultural memory. The ideas that have ingrained themselves in various groups and individuals about the things our forefathers may or may not have been responsible for or believed themselves are deeply in our own social awareness of the world around us.

Whether or not they're true, those historical memories are harder to kill than a case of the crabs.

Hope you aren't speaking from experience....:D
It probably did start with Nixon and his southern strategy. I also think you are over simplifying the war on drugs comment. There are big differences in sentencing for crack and cocaine. Despite being essentially the same drug one has historically carried much longer sentencing for convictions. Why, is a good question.
Crack is not a drug of the wealthy. That's why.
