I know it's too early, but who will be the top teams and players in the region next year?

 

Here is a list to get started. The bottom 1/3 to 1/2 of the teams were very much a guess, and the players could go in pretty much any order.

I don't know where they fit on the list but Thompson from Harrison and Williams from Mason will have "break-out" years I think. I also like the Cooper kid from Robertson and the Sticklen Kid from St. Pat.

Williams and Cooper two guys I considered. I don't know anything about Sticklen.

I think at this point Harrison Co, Mason Co and Campbell Co are all heavy favorites in their districts. The 40th I give GRC a very small edge over Paris and Montgomery Co.

There will be a dropoff at MoCO, but I do not think it will be as much as everyone thinks. They will be returning Caswell Fuller, Art Walker, Sam Hodgson, Chase Hall, and big Shelby Combs who all have varsity experience. Plus they will know Coach Holland's system now. Plus possibly add a player or two from the incoming freshman class that only lost 1 game as 8th graders.

That's a pretty good group of five players returning.

I agree with AndOneDad on Williams possibly having a breakout year. Ran the point pretty well for Mason County as a sophomore & he should just keep getting better. Thompson could be a top five talent, as could teammate Zack Pulliam, but Thompson in particular needs to avoid falling too much in love with the perimeter. He's too talented down low to stay so far away from the basket.

 

Sticklen is long & lean at 6'5". He's a very versatile player, runs the floor well, & has a nice mid-range game in addition to his post play.

Harrison County & Mason County should be the clear favorites for their Districts. Campbell County should be as well, but I wouldn't sleep on Scott. They're going to have outstanding guard play. The post is where they might be vulnerable with the departure of Crim. Campbell is definitely king of the hill, but I look for Scott to make things difficult. And while Brossart will be down, they can never be counted out with Code on the sidelines.

No one is mentioning the two future sophomores at Clark. I forget the point guard's name but I think Jones will have a breakout year next year especially if she adds a few inches over the summer.

Scott should have a stronger squad after a disappointing year. Key players returning include; Blake Schneider, Jake Ohmer, Andrew Trame, and Darien Witherspoon.

Look for GRC to be very competitive this year. Only lost two Seniors in Blanton and Riley. Jerryd Jones really came on last year in his Freshman year. One no one is talking about is Sam Barrett. He will be a Senior. Saw a few starting rolls near the end of the season. Another one to watch for is Ronte Owens, a Freshman, which also saw more minutes late in the season. We also have a few 8th graders coming up that should see some action this year too which I have been told will give us some height.
