How is Dre Jackson not considered to be THEE best player in the 10th region next year? He averaged nearly 18/5rebs/5asts in his junior campaign. He (and Campbell) bested Harrison Co. twice. That said, IMO Campbell will also have the second best player also, in Matt Wilson. Being a junior, he still has some things to work on (midrange consistency, putting the ball on the deck) that's why I give the best nod to Jackson, as a senior.

 

Don't get me wrong. I like Jenkins game. Smooth PG, good first step, good leader on the court, and loves his team. The young man can absolutely play. But, I don't think he scores at all 3 levels as well as Jackson.

 

Jackson can score from anywhere, has a nice handle, good athleticism, long first step, sees the floor very well, has nice footwork along the baseline.

 

Jenkins and Jackson are similar players, but Jackson scores it more easily IMO. Both need to add muscle and be able to get up in their opponents on defense. Both will be the leaders of their team, a position I know they are ready for.

Nicholas County loses seniors, Scott Keaton and Logan Fryman, but returns 4 of its top 7 scorers. They will likely start 4 or 5 seniors, including leading scorer, Tyler Newton (15 ppg). Duncan, Webb, George, Stafford, Letcher, and Sapp will provide scoring threats as well from outside. Junior Elijah McFarland (who started 10 games in '13-'14), junior J.P. Wagoner, and senior Drake Vice will also be counted on inside for the Jackets. Freshman-to-be, Spencer Morris will also be one to watch in the future. I look for them to play a different style and be more open on offense with focus on defensive improvement in Year 2 with Coach Newton. They could have enough to get out of the 38th district and get back to the 10th Region tournament in 2015. Free throws in the district semis kept them from getting past RC this season.

Look for GRC to be very competitive this year. Only lost two Seniors in Blanton and Riley. Jerryd Jones really came on last year in his Freshman year. One no one is talking about is Sam Barrett. He will be a Senior. Saw a few starting rolls near the end of the season. Another one to watch for is Ronte Owens, a Freshman, which also saw more minutes late in the season. We also have a few 8th graders coming up that should see some action this year too which I have been told will give us some height.

Our tallest player's now are 6"3. They will be taller than that and still growing, I have been told.

During the realignment in 2005/2006 they and Paris were moved into the 40th district with GRC and Montgomery Co. Since that time, neither Paris or Bourbon Co have made it out of the district, partly due to the fact that GRC has been right there with Mason Co as the top team in the region over that span, and Montgomery Co has typically been a top 5 team in the region.

It appears Paris is on the way up with a very strong group of younger kids, but Bourbon Co seems to be moving the other direction.

I think Matthew Martin has the potential to be a solid coach for the Colonels, but he is inexperienced, and didn't inherit much talent in the program, so they will have to be patient with him.

What a lot said about MoCo and BB this past year and that didn't happen. Look forward to next year's season.

As always, the 10th will be a ton of fun. My Camels return more than most and should be the favorite. It will not be an easy road.

 

As I predicted last year, Camels win the region. This time, they play a minimum of 3 games at Rupp.
