Mets' Daniel Murphy Gets Flack for Taking Paternity Leave

Featured Replies

That's completely understandable, but no reason to bash someone that is in a situation where he can do that. Not saying you are doing that, just referencing the topic at hand. Lets not forget we are talking about about baseball game here.

Very true. And I'm not bashing Murphy either. I would have played and gone back to the hospital but that's me. I ain't mad at him for not playing though. Even though he killed my fantasy team these last 2 days. :lol2:

Yes it can, but I'm simply going off the comments Boomer made. He specifically said C-section.

Yeah, he is off there and I definitely wouldn't insist on it being done.

One other thing that is unique is that Murphy lives in Florida. He's in New York for work. Makes the whole thing a little more difficult.

Makes it more understandable why he wanted the time off also.

Typically paternity leave is paid....

I've never known maternity leave to be paid unless sick, vacation, or comp time is available to be taken, much less paternity leave.

You're correct. Employers are required to grant it, however it's not paid. I always get that confused. :lol2:

They don't pay either here where I work. Your time off is excused by FMLA but I don't think they get disability. Paternity Leave definitely doesn't.

Boomer and this Francesa guy are idiots.

Yes.

He basically said he should've forced her to have an unnecessary surgery so he didn't have to miss work. You do realize how dumb that sounds right?

it's beyond stupid.

My wife was paid for 2 months for maternity leave.

My work allowed me to have 3 weeks off, but I had plenty of comp time.

Anyone that judges or questions another mans decision to be at home with his wife and new child is an idiot. He has every right to take those days off to be with them.

This. When our son was born, he was 6 weeks early. Wife went into premature labor, and they had to do an emergency C-section. He spent a week in the nic unit. After only three or four days, my boss asked me when I was coming back to work. (I worked in sales) I told him I honestly didn't know. He seemed shocked. Gave me all I needed to know about him and his priorities.

I thought I saw somewhere that Murphy's wife gave birth via C-section.

When my son was born I was off 3 days but actually had to work some and used the phone in my wife's hospital room to get some stuff taken care of for work. When my Daughter was born 9 years later I took two weeks off and could have taken much more off but didn't. Being salaried at the time I had 12 weeks paid that I could have taken off, but I never considered taking any where near that off.

IMO Boomer is an idiot, it is not for him or anyone else to decide what is right or wrong for someone else's family.
