If Jim Edmonds gets 50% of the vote at any time, I will be shocked. Please, someone, tell me what credentials even makes anyone think he has a chance at the Hall. I bet Jim Rice is hoping for Edmonds to get in though. Edmonds would immediately and clearly replace Rice as the least deserving Hall of Famer ever. If you think Edmonds has a chance, compare his stats to Rice's, and then ask yourself if Edmonds could possibly even get in on the 15th ballot like Rice did.

 

Now, if you are saying YOU would put Edmonds in, then I can understand that you may view the Hall differently than the voters do. But if you are applying the standards of the Hall voters, Edmonds has no chance. And I don't think Andruw has a chance either, with better stats than Edmonds.

 

Here is another one to compare - Juan Gonzalez. Check out his career stats compared to Edmonds and Jones and how the Hall votes have gone for him.

1. Pudge should make it, definitely won't on first ballot. As far as roids, he wasn't mentioned on the Mitchell report, never failed a test. He didn't really admit it, but didn't really deny it, and all evidence is really circumstantial. But the best defensive catcher ever, most games caught, won an MVP, almost 3,000 hits.

 

2. Vlad may get in, not on first few ballots though. Doesn't have any of the magic numbers. But if Rice is in, Vlad should be in. I wouldn't be mad if he doesn't make it.

 

The others in this class shouldn't get in unless they buy a ticket.

Chipper, Omar, and Thome get it, but not on the first ballot. They all have major holes in their resume. Chipper doesn't have any of the magic numbers (3k hits, 500 homers etc). Thome has 600 homers, but was mostly one dimensional. If Ozzie is in, Omar is in.

 

None of the rest make it. Sorry Rolen fans, he just doesn't have any good enough numbers. Didn't hit a ton of homers, not a great batting average, not even close to any of the magic numbers, no MVP's never considered even one of the top 5 or even 10 players of his era.

My point is he gets a pass on the PED use but a legit argument can be made that he exhibited some of the same traits that steroid users exhibit. If you can find some of those traits in Saint Griffey then who do you know for sure was clean from that era? If you can't prove that any of them were clean then shouldn't everyone except the ones that have been proven to be users get the same consideration? At this point, yes. I'd lump them all in if that's how those idiots are going to vote.

Take off the Reds-tinted glasses and he makes some good points on why Griffey might have used. Griffey is highly-likable and a "hometown" Red. The first gives him a free pass everywhere and the second extrapolates it on this board.

The players I would vote for:

 

Griffey, Edmonds, Manny, IRod, Chipper, Thome, Andruw Jones, and Vlad.

 

I'd think long and hard about Omar.

If you have to think long and hard then he is not a HOFer.

Just as a comparison, here's Ozzie Smith's BA and OPS. I feel that Omar is the only one even close to OZ in fielding.

 

Ozzie- .262 BA, .666 OPS (10,778 Plate Appearances)

 

Omar- .272 BA, .688 OPS (12,013 Plate Appearances)

 

I think Larkin is pretty close to Ozzie. Some would say that Larkin actually had a stronger arm.
