Grant Hill Says People Hate Duke Because "we've had a lot of good white players"

Featured Replies

That statement by Hill seems weird to me. You would think if race were part of the equation that people would like Duke if they have great white players. I don't think the race of the players has anything to do with people not liking Duke. People root against the best. That is why people don't like the historically best like UK, the Yankees, Notre Dame football, etc.

I simply don't like Duke because I feel they get too much bias their way. I also don't like UNC or Kansas either because I want UK to always have the most wins etc.

That is what makes sports great, the ability to dislike other teams.

So Duke haters hate white people? I don't get it.

It's harmless fun! I look at teams as a whole; not the color of the kids playing.

Me likewise.

I have never really "Hated" a person who plays for a team I don't like after he leaves that team. Even Laetner although I enjoyed watching him struggle in the NBA, I didn't HATE him per say. Shoot, Jay Billas is my favorite analyst because he tells it like it is, doesn't mean I liked him as a player.

As

you said, that is the fun part of being a fan.

I guess I don't get Hill's point. On this very board and in another thread going non-UK fans accuse UK fans of having an unhealthy dislike for Duke. On this board people have accused the UK fan base of being racist for things like Tubby leaving (I don't buy it ). So this so called racist fan base hates a program for having an occasional good white player ?

Which is why I made my first post in this thread. It seemed a little weird for Hill to say that and never understood the race aspect of it, but of roles were reversed I think the racism card would have come out.

Honestly I'm a little confused by your point as well. If someone stated the reverse , that in of itself would be the race card. Stating someone doesn't like someone because of race is the race card.

What are you talking about? People talk about people that hated teams full of black players all the time. Half of the Big East 30 For 30 last weekend was about people making a race issue out of Georgetown in the 80s.

Nobody would say that about UK because it wouldn't make any sense...

Wiltjer was Cal's first white scholarship player in quite awhile, and we see it was not a good match because he was "too slow" and "not athletic enough".

Maybe under Pitino and even Tubby, but not under Calipari.

My point is just bringing race I to the equation is ignorant. G Hill did just that yet it isn't looked upon as being racist yet if the statement was because of more black players and it was said by a white player then it would of been front page news.

Its just how it would of been portrayed.

If you think that's not one of the reasons people hate Duke, you're kidding yourself. It doesn't help that most of their white guys are tools, but off the top of my head 9/10 of the Duke players I hate are white. Paulus, Plumlee 1-3, Scheyer, Ryan Kelly, Wojo, McRoberts, Singlet, and Quinn Cook.

Redick was a G though.

Obviously hate is used in a light hearted way before some bozo calls me out for hating some random sports player.

And when black people persecute white people for 200 years, I'll get offended about what Grant said.

I didn't bother to read it. From the White House to the Outhouse and all points in between it seems all that I heard is someone playing the race card. It's Stupid, Sickening and I won't glorify it with anyone of any race by talking about it.

Then people hate them because they are tools, not because they are white.
