Top 25 Baseball players in NKY

Featured Replies

In my opinion, out of the 50 players listed there is at least 10 players who should not be ranked this high. It is a travesty that Adam Daria and Tristen Marcum are not on this list!

Its one mans opinion. I disagree with it too, but truly its meaningless. Travesty is kind of harsh.

Henry Kerns from Dixie, Tony LaCorte from St. Henry, and Ben Heppler from Cov Cath are all three good pitchers that could have been placed in that top 25 for sure! Can't wait to see what they do this season!

Welcome to BGP Baseballfan_45!!!!

All 3 were in 25 others to watch (second group). Not sure it got copied over, but since it's a couple of days old here you go:

25 Others to Watch (in alphabetical order): Sr. OF Adam Atkinson (Covington Catholic); Sr. 2B Trevor Booth (Beechwood); Sr. OF/P Josh Castleman (Scott); Sr. P Joey Cochran (Highlands); Jr. 3B/P Spencer Hackworth (Bishop Brossart); Jr. SS Ethan Harrison (Dixie Heights); Sr. OF/P Colin Hathorn (Cooper); Sr. C Blake Hart (Conner); Sr. P/3B Ben Heppler (Covington Catholic); Sr.P/OF Henry Kerns (Dixie Heights); Sr. C Joe Kremer (Campbell County); Sr. P/1B Tony LaCorte (St. Henry); Jr. P/IF Grant Moeves (Newport Central Catholic); Jr. P/1B Nick Niehaus (Dixie Heights); Sr. P/INF/OF Trevor Niehaus (Holy Cross); Sr. SS Zach Pouncy (Holmes); Sr. C/1B Tyler Smith (Simon Kenton); Jr. INF Brenden Stanley (Boone County); Sr. C Daniel Tilley (Walton-Verona); Sr. P/SS Geoffrey Thornsburg (Ludlow); Sr. IF/C Tyler Smith (Simon Kenton); Sr. IF/C Grant Wassom (Simon Kenton); Sr. SS Jared Williams (Conner); Sr. P/C/1B/3B Nolan Wilson (Gallatin County).

Hey RSkinner, just wanted to say thanks for all you do. Hopefully I'll see you at some games this year or atleast at the 9th region tourney again.

A player that will finish the year in the top 25 that didn't make the top 50 list imo will be Jake Lawhorn

IMO this list has more credibility than PBR when ranking players in the area. Considering this is a list compiled of coaches that actually watched these kids in game situations throughout the year.

Actually the PBR guys get out to a lot of HS games. Have seen several of them out and about, Fuller especially. They have really established credibility among college coaches. Perfect Game and their tournaments are still tops, but for local kids PBR is really doing good things.

I am sure PBR does a good job. In no way was I trying to discredit PBR. Fuller may get out to watch several games through out the year, but I'm sure he doesn't get a chance to watch the majority of players in NKY perform more than once.

Every kid in NKY does not attend a PBR event. If Fuller sees a player on the day he is there and that player is having a bad game for whatever reason, then that's the only sample he has.

I was simply stating, I would favor the rankings by the coaches on players in NKY over PBR because coaches most likely have had the chance to watch or his team has played against the them on several occasions.

What you have to like about PBR it cuts straight through the bull. How fast does he pitch? Here is a top rated calibrated gun... done, what's his 60... line him up as a trained professional who's rep is on the line pushes the buttons. He has a cannon from the outfield.... really? Run him out their and lets see. I suggest to anyone to pull out the Top 25 list and go to PBR and learn more about players you don't know or compare the notes on what you saw or someone said they saw. The national scouting director gives detailed info on what the kids should be doing in the recruitment process. PBR has done more to get Kentucky players exposure in a very short time than we could possibly hope for. Look up Jeremy Downs Ryle 2014, kids a stud and was missed. Legit 6.81 60, 89 OF arm. That's better than a lot of D1 signees.

I get that, numbers in a showcase doesn't tell the whole story. Some kids do not perform well in those type of environments. Other perform well and it doesn't transfer to the field. The bottom line is, getting it done between the lines. A pitcher can throw 88 but if he can't throw consistent strikes or doesn't have the heart to fight through tough situations on the mound what's the use of having him?

I've seen kids hit the crap out of the ball in BP of a showcase and can't hit the side of a barn in a live game situation.

Someone once told me, It's not about potential but what's on the back of the card...:ylsuper:

You need to combine what's on the back of the baseball card and legitimate evaluated numbers. There is where the quality recruit is selected. I think that is where the Top Prospect Games and Unsigned Seniors games come in to play. Hey this kid has good numbers, lets give him an invite and see how he performs against other talented players. How does he pitch against everyone's top batters, how does he hit against every pitcher being a one or a two?

Congrats to the top 25! As stated, a lot of hard work and well deserved!!

Now that the season is winding down it's time to get back to this March thread.

Rankings still correct?

Who is the 9th POY?

Trey Ganns gets my vote (well, if I had a vote). Has been the ultimate 2 way threat all year.

As for Top ten, not sure I would change anything other than shuffling the order based on my own opinion as I haven't seen enough, but if there are 10 players in NKy better than Cameron Ross, I have yet to see all of them.
