Who is the POY in the 14th and explain why?

Featured Replies

If they qre required to be a senior, then I don't agree with that. Then it becomes not a POY award, rather it is a Senior Of The Year award (SOY) award. There's quite a bit of difference.

In my opinion, the player of the year should be just that....most valuable player of that particular season, I don't care if he's a freshman. What if a team had a sophomore or junior who averaged 40 point, 15 rebounds, and his team won the region. He couldn't be POY because he's not a senior????

Kentucky All-Stars is the key point here. This award was started to give an automatic invitation to one player per region. You have to be a senior to play in the Kentucky-Indiana All-Star games.

I see. Well, then they need to make two separate awards.....one for the senior who will try out for the All-Star game, and another for the all around Player Of The Year in the region. If he's the best senior then he will win two awards that particular year.

Cody Gilbert has big numbers but there really isnt a lot of players around him to do anything else - and the team still hasnt won with his big numbers so that rules him out in my oppinion.

For me its between Rich and Dixon. Depending on how each do in Beatyville this week and then perhaps in Hindman.

Cody Gilbert is a good player. Dont get me wrong. But his stats are a little exaggerated part of the reason the Wolves got blew out of gyms this season is because they were to worried about Cody Gilberts stats instead of the teams. Player of the year should go to players who are an asset to the team that helps them win. Cody Gilbert didnt help Wolfe win many games.

Gilbert's stats might be exaggerated but most people are arguing that the POY should be the player who did the most for their team and I would have to say that I havent seen a player do as much for their team as Gilbert does for Wolfe. Not only doe she lead his tam in points and rebounds but he leads them in assists and steals too. Any other player in the region do that? He does more too. He handles the ball majority of the time and is asked to play 32 minutes everynight while facing constant double teams. I dont think Wolfe lost games because they were interested with Gilbert's stats. They lost cause they lost. Another thing is who else in this region is asked to do what Gilbert does and performs thw way he does. He has done all he can for his twam and hopefully it pays off in the post season. He lead his team to do something that the best team in the region PCC couldn't do. Beat Hazard. I am not saying that they arent other good palyers in the region I am just saying that I beleive Gilbert is the POY simply because he is the player who is asked the most of and the player who does the most what else do you want?

I love Cody Gilberts game BUT My vote is for TYLER (BIG & )RICH

I understand your vote but the question I have is what would happen if you put Rich on a team by himself, on a team with no experience at all? I dont htink he would've had near the year he has had. Lee is so good at every position that if you double down on the big man you will definently get beat so that is a hard point to argue. And for people saying that Gilbert doesnt elevate the levels of his teammates games I have to disagree. He started the year with one teammate who had seen significant varsity minutes and still kept his team competitive. What happened when he sat out lately, everything was harder on them. I think it is a mute point. Gilbert does more for his team than any other player in the region and IMO should be player of the year. You put any of the other top players on this WC team and I dont think they would've had bear a good of year as Gilbert has had and WC would definently not be better.

Listen, the best team gets their award for winning the reigon, while the player of the year is just that they are the best player. Mike Fields watched Cody play in the Kentucky Bank Shootout and came away so impressed he wrote an article about Gilbert for the next weeks paper. They are some really good players in this reigon such as Dixon, Hicks, and Rich but Gilbert really in a lot of people's mind within the coach's the best player in the reigon. Again not taking away from everyone else just stating that imo he is the better all around player. One thing else the regular season don't mean anything now, best I can see it is everyone right now can not have a better record than 1-0.

Rich is a good one. Others are Morgan and Day from Leslie, Hicks from Hazard, Dixon from Estill, Amis from Perry. I think an award like this should go to teams that are contenders and have proven it throughout the year, and in the post season tournaments. A POY should be able to put his team on his shoulders and carry them. You don't necessarly have to win the region, but at least get there and be in position to do so.

I seen Dixion this year put his team on his shoulder when he went 8 for 9 in a great overtime victory against there rivalry Powll County. He has been great all year and would get my vote in this region.

I have seen Gilbert put his team on his back on numerous ocassions, just to come up a few points short is that his fault? T go 13 for 17 from the field and have 40 points and 16 rebounds and to lose by 2 or 4 makes a bad game for a player. I guess they should've just scored 2 or 4 more right?

Gilbert is a nice player(looks to score and doesnt play very hard on defense all the time) but too selfish and IMO looking out for Cody. Morgan from Leslie and Rich from Lee have been proven Big Game Players on good teams. If the award wasnt just for seniors then Hicks from hazard's stock woud of just went up tonight.

Dixon is right in the top of the pack,IMO top 3 or 4,. Hes tough.

I forgot about the new Estill team in the 14th.

Robert Smith isnt far behind him because the huge differemce he made in Owsley's team. Daniel Neeley could also be cinsidered if the award wasnt just for seniors after the games in the first of the season and his performance againest Lee tonight.
