Who is the POY in the 14th and explain why?

Featured Replies

POY will depend on how the postseason goes. If lee wins, I think Rich & Wright will both be poy & coy. If hazard wins, Hicks will be poy & spurlock may edge wright. If leslie wins, i think morgan & day will split some votes & rich or hicks could get it. It should be exciting to watch!!!!

Is Hicks a senior??

Is Hicks a senior??

that is right, POY only goes to the top senior. Hicks is a junior.

My top seniors as of today:

1. Tyler Rich - if lee advances to semi's or beyond

2. Cody Gilbert-Wolfe needs to make some noise but is the top player in the region. Hand may hurt & team achievements as well.

3. Robert Amis-If PCC advances to lexington, he has a shot since he is the biggest profile player on that team.

4. Cam Wright-If LCC makes noise but probably won't get many votes since he hasnt got the attention that he has deserved all season.

5. Robert Smith-great player but on a bad team & if anyone gets it on a bad team it will be Gilbert.

No question that Gilbert is the most talented player in the region...his numbers are unparalled. He's not my POY though. If he was that good Wolfe would have more wins...there's more to helping a team win than putting up big numbers. My top two are Rich @ Lee and Hicks of Hazard.

It takes teammates to win a game. All a player can do is give his all to his team. If they go out and do that it is great. The award is for the POY not the team of the year. I think the best player in the region should get it.

I see were your coming from Mtn. Warrior. It's been a while since I have seen a player put up numbers like Gilbert has this season. I heard he played a nice game against Lee Co. with a broke hand, that's impressive. Rich, Amos, and Wright don't put up numbers like Gilbert, but I think they do as much to help their teams win. I say the POY should go to which ever of these guys does the most to help there teams win their districts and the region. I will admit that Gilbert is the funnest to watch play though...even his defense is a little lacking.

I just changed my mind...it has to be Gilbert for POY. He is the only kid in the region who would stand a chance of making the Kentucky All Star Team. I would love to see another 14th Region player make that team, and he might just have the skills to do it. Go Wolf Co. and Cody Gilbert.

The Player of the Year from each region selected by the coaches association has to be a senior. He gets an automatic invitation to the Kentucky All-Stars tryouts.

I'm guessing it will be Gilbert. But Day and Morgan have a shot, too. They will probably split the votes though, being on the same team.

If they qre required to be a senior, then I don't agree with that. Then it becomes not a POY award, rather it is a Senior Of The Year award (SOY) award. There's quite a bit of difference.

In my opinion, the player of the year should be just that....most valuable player of that particular season, I don't care if he's a freshman. What if a team had a sophomore or junior who averaged 40 point, 15 rebounds, and his team won the region. He couldn't be POY because he's not a senior????

What led to that quick change of heart Wooderson? IMO I think that the POY should be the player that played the best throughout the year. If his team didnt win you shouldn't hold that aginst him if he led his team in almost every possible stat category. If a player plays as well as he can and cant get his team over the hump, should it be held against him?

#4 on the list-Cam Wright should be higher up. TOp 5 in the state rebounding. One of the best scorers. You are right. Not enough attention. Some NAIA college is gonna end up getting a solid Div II player (at least).

I just wonder what he could have done this year if he had played for a team like Lee County or Estill County? Something to ponder.

What if he remained at Morgan Co. where he first enrolled this year? Now that would have been scary. :scared:

I agree.

One player One award Cody Gilbert hands down. I don't care if Wolfe went 0-23 he is still the best plaaaaayer in the 14th. Some other good contenders however.

Gilbert or Hicks.

When will this be voted on?
