Looks like SK in the last 5 years have gone on to not only win more district titles than CCH but have also made it further in the playoffs than CCH has....so yes, fact. CCH made it to 3rd round 3 times, SK made it to the 3rd round 4 times. Fact.

What statement are we debating? SK has had more success relative to their division than CCH? OK.

SK has had a better run than CCH simply based on how far they went? Too simplistic of a measure.

SK has had a really good run over the last 5 years? Yes.

SK is as good as CCH? Maybe. Hard to tell.

Pure comedy. So you discount the FACT that they've played the same amount of games and have the exact same record? What about the year SK lost in the 1st round and CovCath played in the 2nd round?

I am not saying nor have I ever said CCH isn't a good team and a well respected teamin the area. I'm just simply pointing out that I believe they get a free pass a lot of times. There are teams int he area that have been more succesful than CCH yet are not even given an ounce of credit. It has been and will always be for a long time a=thought that the 2 best teams in NKY are Highlands and Covington Catholic. Unfortunately that perception isn't going to change anytime soon.

CCH is usually knocked out of the playoffs by Highlands, correct?

That's why we can't use how far in the playoffs they went as a measure. No one else is playing HHS unless a 6A team got beat by the Hatcher/Quick T teams.

Play them and beat them. Perception changed!

Yes and you discount that Cov Cath is playing in 4a while SK is in 6A. You take HHS out of the equation and 6A is clearly the tougher of the divisions.

I'm not discounting that at all. What I'm doing is going over the overall work the past 5 years. SK had 1 year where they only made it to the first round....does that single year dictate the rest of that time span and depict the overall team SK had? No. There were 4 years that they made it to the regional championship game that you seem to be discounting. I take all 5 years into account. If you simply want to go by wins then you ignore how good a team during a time frame really is. What you are doing is taking 1 bad year out of 5 for SK and using that to say CCH accomplished more in 5 years. Simply not true.

I always have, and probably always will, hate the "school size argument". Highlands plays Trinity, big difference in size and most of the time they play with Trinity. Likewise, a lot of schools play and beat much larger schools. The difference is not enrollment, the difference is: do they platoon, or do they not platoon.

If Simon Kenton beat NCC, I would give them credit. If they beat Mayfield, I would give them credit. If they beat Central, I would give them credit. Those smaller schools would beat many of the 5A and 6A schools in the state, no shame in playing them.

We can go back and forth on the numbers game. 400 -vs- 1300 is a huge difference and the player quality is the difference maker. You mention platooning and I agree that has a big impact. One would think the school with 1300 boys to chose from would have the higher skilled 2nd stringers because of the bigger poplulation to work with where the smaller school would have to stretch their quality athletes around the platoon system.

Play them and beat them. Perception changed!

Why should SK have to play CCH Hand beat them to change the perception? CCH surely didn't have to play Moeller, or St X or Lasalle and beat them to have the perception they have. In fact the only thing CCH had to do was lose to those schools to get the respect they get today. So would the same criteria be held to SK? I doubt it, if SK plays them and loses they will be thought of by you and many others as a team that doesn't deserve the respect CCH gets.

So your standard you hold for SK shoujld be held first to your CCH. Let CCH win one of those games first before holding other schools to the standard you don't even hold CCH to.

Very true which is why I never brought up the playoff records, a CCH fan did. I only replied to his post.

My points were made in previous posts.

The Blue Bird faithful ran out of cake! Almost forgot the baby Birdies got shut out by the mighty Pioneers in Freshman football. :D

I don't disagree, it does however happen both ways in case you hadn't noticed.

I understand that but he is also criticized at length for it among other things he may post. I am not supporting his comments or thoughts just pointing out a bit of a double standard.

I simply don't buy the "if you more to choose from" argument. What are you choosing? If we go to, say China and make a football team will they be better then the 49ers? Well, they should be, we have 10 billion people to choose from in China. By the same argument, why is Highlands so good? Henderson County has much more players to choose from, Henderson County should beat Highlands 10 out of 10 times.

Platooning makes a huge difference if a team beats another team, if one team platoons and the other does not I would venture to say the statistics are heavily favored in the way of the team that platoons. Why? Because they have more players to choose from? No. Because they have fresh players on the field.

SK has had a better run than CCH simply based on how far they went? Too simplistic of a measure. I agree 110% and is why that wasn't part of my points I made earlier.

SK has had a really good run over the last 5 years? Yes.

SK is as good as CCH? Not talking about as good for either team, talking about the respect they deserve for what they've accomplished over the same time frame of 5 years. CCH hasn't accomplished anything while SK has when you talk about undefeated seasons, district titles etc.

Simply saying SK has done more but gets less respect and I personally don't agree with that.

When people talk about schedule and who teams play etc. Well I would give kudos to the school boasting the tough schedule when they point out the ohio teams they play year in and year out if they would actually win a game now and then against those teams, but when they average losing by 31 points to those teams then I don't understand why that team should be given a pass simply because they know how to get crushed by ohio teams.

CCH playing Moeller or St X or Lasalle says alot when comparing them to SK and the 1A/2A schedule they play. If SK wants the respect, they need to play a better schedule. You downplay CCH because they haven't beaten Highlands in however many years, but that doesn't mean they aren't the 2nd best team in the area. A lot of people will and have said that CCH would have won 2-3 titles in recent years if not for the Highlands roadblock. You're in the minority when it comes to the opinion on whether CCH is an elite team in NKY.
