That sure goes against the conventional wisdom and if coaches thought that way they would never schedule a tough team. I happen to think that playing tougher opponents just about always works to a team's benefit. There is no way of knowing if one particular team improved by playing a tough schedule since we can't know how they would have done without those games. I trust that the coaches know if it helped their team and the fact that they continue to schedule those teams leads me to believe they think it was best for their team. I think playing a tougher team makes one focus and practice harder in anticipation of the event.

20 pages to learn that HB who spent sometime in Fort Mitchell believes that CCH doesn't deserve hype in the SK will you play some body thread? CCH most years are the second best in NKY. They have had a few down recently but the program is coming back toward the elite. SK is much better than the lean years of the 80's.. I have to agree step up and play SK or quit tooting your horn with early exits!!

SK does play somebody! Scrimmage ST X., Open the season with Collins. We used to play Scott County and Henry Clay.

First off, I never once said don't schedule a tough team. For instance a tough team for NCC may be Cooper and they schedule Cooper etc. and a tough team for Cooper might be SK and they schedule SK etc. Never said don't schedule tough teams, I said schedule a tough team that can actually help your team prepare for the rest of the season etc. If NCC schedules St X, that will do little to improve them.

There is a huge difference in playing a tough team as in a team that may be a little better than you or playing the Alabama Crimson Tide. For instance, what would benefit Grant Co. more? Playing Beechwood or playing Moeller? Playing Beechwood would benefit them more because they are closer to their playing ability. Playing Moeller would be a huge waste of time because it isn't even in the same area code when it comes to talent level etc.

If CCH playing Moeller or Lasalle or St X would help CCH that would be one thing, but the fact that it hasn't shown those games help in any way except feed the gate with more money. CCH has not benefitted by getting beat by avg of 31 points every year to those teams and has not got them to where those games helped them beat Highlands at all and after all that is CCH's #1 goal year in and year out because without beating Highlands they will never win anything.

I don't understand how it's so hard to understand. If playing harder teams was a garuntee to make you better then I've yet to see any proof of that, and if it were true then every team would be playing teams like that if it worked. The fact that it doesn't work is why teams don't go out of their way to schedule beat downs.

It is your opinion and your view that it doesn't work or help. The coaches obviously have a different viewpoint or they would schedule a guaranteed win. Challenging your team against superior competition will make you a better if you have set the proper expectations with the players on your team. Playing the cupcakes will give you an inflated ego that will get crushed later in the season when you have to play some of the superior teams.

Please read my post. You along with some others have totally the wrong perception of what I've said. I never once said schedule a guaranteed win. I said schedule challenging teams that will improve your team. Cooper playing SK was not a guaranteed win, Cooper lost. NCC playing Cooper was not a guaranteed win for NCC as Cooper beat them.

Please try and understand the difference between scheduling good teams to make you better and scheduling beat downs that does nothing but get you embarrassed.

I never once said anything close to "schedule cupcakes" please show me where I said anything even remotely close to that.

Do you honestly think Grant Co. would improve and get better if they scheduled Trinity?

There are only a handful of teams in NKY that can challenge CCH. Of those teams(non-district) only one or two are actually willing to step up to the plate and play them.

So CCH fills their schedule with teams that they feel will make them better either through identifying areas of opportunity to improve on the field or by growing as a person/team from lessons learned in defeat(whether it's 1 point or 50 points). It doesn't always have to be about wins and losses. Good for the fans, but the coaches are also teaching the boys about life and the reality of things to come. Right?

Grant Co could absolutely learn from playing Trinity. The improvement part would then be up to the coaches and players. Identifying the goals before the game and then working towards those goals after the game.

When, exactly, will CovCath begin reaping the benefits of this challenging schedule? Shouldn't it's impact have been demonstrated by now with some wins vs. FTH?

I don't know- should it have? Is there a magic formula that says it should have by now?

I've personally seen them play a GCL team now for going on 4+ years (I know they have been playing GCL teams longer than that however). They played LaSalle a couple times when they were near the top of the heap in the GCL- they certainly played Moeller when they were at the top- and I have no doubt, will be so again when CCH players up at there place this year. I saw a team last year who got incrementally better each game after Moeller. The results of playing these teams doesn't come in a year or two or three IMO- it's a slow build as you take incremental steps up year after year. It's not a magic pill either- just because your getting incrementally better doesn't mean the other guy is staying put. I am of the firm belief CCH is making good solid incremental strides toward getting district, region and state.

So back to what I see happening on here. I see two arguments- one spurred on by the other:

1) Certain folks took offense to the notion that SK would be better if they scheduled teams like Highlands and CCH- prompting some to question why CCH should get a top two billing.

which spun off into

2) An argument that tougher scheduling vaults you into the top spots.

It's beyond silly really. No one is going to convince the other side they are wrong- though suspect that deep down, everyone is closer in their way of thinking than they would admit.

Sorry, but that kind of made me laugh.

If the coaches and players don't know what they need to work on then they shouldn't be coaches. If they don't know as a team what their deficiencies are then playing Trinity will not help that at all.

To actually believe if Grant Co. played Trinity it would make Grant Co. better is ridiculous.

As far as stepping up to the plate to play CCH, why doesn't

CCH step up and schedule Trinity? I'm sure they'd love to play another in state team.

I think there are plenty of NKY teams to challenge CCH, maybe CCH just doesn't accept them for their schedule. The thought that teams shy away from CCH may just be a myth.

According to you and others like NamecipS it definitely should have by now. 75center also stated the same I believe.

The only thing I as well as NKY Bandit asks is show us the proof. It isn't too hard if it is a fact that getting your butts kicked each and every year by those teams make you better. We're simply asking for the proof.

Just going back the last 5 years. Playing the GCL teams according to you and some others make CCH better, so how many times have they beat HHS either in the regular season or in the playoffs? Figured if it was garunteed to make CCH better playing GCL teams then surely we would have seen that improvement by now.

I'm going to say please see my post #273 for the answer- then I predict you will say that's not a good enough answer since your built in definition of "proof" seems to come down to beating Highlands. So therefore you discard anything else. There is no arguing with you because you refuse to see that there are a variety of ways to define improvement.

And please cite where I said there was a set time table on "improvement" from playing a tough schedule. No, on second thought, never mind- I really don't want to prolong any more conversation with you.

Everytime you post about this and strength of schedule I get to laugh.

You don't and won't get it. Either by choice or (we'll just leave the rest out so I don't get suspended).....

Grant Cty would absolutely get better from playing Trinity. To think they wouldn't is absolutely absurd.

Here we go with the whole "what makes you think the teams are ducking them" argument. You are so predictable. You did the same thing with Highlands and Trinity schedule discussions.

It seems certain posters definition of improvement only counts in wins and losses. No sense in arguing with them. In this case, you can't fix ignorance or stupidity.

So you believe Grant Co would improve more by playing Trinity more than they would by playing Boone Co?

Please explain because it makes zero sense. How does a team improve by getting beat by 100 points than they would by playing a team that they can actually learn from an play a little closer to.

Also if improvements according to you don't mean to play better than wht improvements are you talking about?

Moral improvements? Lol.
