Cooper 64 Scott 58 (OT)

This one play shows how hard it is to be an official.

The official under the basket has to watch the players in the low blocks and the two other players on the far lane.

The other two officials have to watch for the following on this one play:

When does the ball get touched.?

Did the shooter cross the FT line before the ball hit the rim?

Did any of the other players on the lane enter before the ball hits the rim?

Did any player (ie McNeil) behind the arc cross the arc (NOT the FT line) before ball hit the rim?

Did the clock start on time?

Did any foul occur during the play?

The ball was touched by Scott's 30, not the Cooper player. I, too, have seen this video. Basket was good, no disputing. Shooter didn't cross the line, but all four lower lane players were in the paint prior to the ball hitting the rim. Also, the player positioned above the three point line on the bench side, not McNeil, had run to the FT line prior to the ball hitting the rim. So, you're the official's, what do you do? Wave off the attempt and have a do-over? Let it play out? I believe officials receive checks to enforce the rules of the game, correct? I think to save my butt I would have called a violation on everyone and done it again, but that's just me. Cooper made a great play and won the game bc of it. Kudos to their kids for not quitting.

Wow!!! So many people have seen this video yet no one can post it? Come on people. Post it so it can be settled once and for all.

I have seen the replay over and over again. The ball never hit the glass. All would be for NO argument if the violation was called. The violation was the player who scored the winning basket was outside the lane prior to the free throw. The player entered the the scoring area (inside the 3 point lane) when the shot left the hands of the foul shout. Therefore, violation!! When the staff asked the officials about who was watching this, the head official said he was suppose to but watched the clock instead. The player crossed right in front of him. However, great execution and would be a mute point if Scott rebounds the ball and makes their free throws. Good luck to both in the post season.

Did not know that was a violation. Interesting. Still would be nice to see some film on it.

Welcome to BGP, sentinel!

This is why I was asking how high the ball bounded after it hit the rim. I was trying to see in my mind's eye how a player behind the 3-pt arc got down low to get the tip.

Hats off to Sully for actually working on that play.

If anyone who does have access to the online video wants to share it with me so I can check it out just shoot me a PM.

BTW it sounds like the most impressive part of the entire play was Hathorn's shot.

Four posters have said they saw the video and that it was good. Why the hesitation to post?

I assume they saw it on Hudl. Might not be allowed to post it.

That would be a simple post.

"I saw the replay on HUDL and I'm not allowed to post". Haven't heard that from any of them.

Had this sent to me by a coach. As I said, the timing was correct, but the lane violations were awful. The official out top lets the kid in front of him charge into the lane before the ball hits the rim and doesn't do anything. Shameful.

I stand corrected. Finally saw the video. The basket was good. Not sure on lane violations, but from the time the ball was tipped to the time it left the shooter's hands, it was about .8 seconds. Amazing!

I have seen the video on Hudl.....

1) was there a lane violation....in my opinion, yes....there were several....probably could have been called a simeltaneous lane violation and then would have been a jump ball....ball would have been Scott's....however, probably not going to be called in that situation....as a previous poster said, lots of things to look for in this situation....

2) did the ball hit the floor....no, hit the back of the rim and went up in the air, ball was tipped to the Cooper kid, who was outside the 3 point arc prior to the shot (probably the only kid who did not violate) ball was caught by this player and in one motion to the goal, layed in for the basket.

3) did the shot count.....yes....the time stamped video I have breaks down into .03/sec per frame....from the time the ball was tipped and until the ball was realeased by the player, was about in about .7 seconds....good call counting the goal.
