Regional Favorites (Week Ending 2/16)

Featured Replies

As of right now, which teams have established themselves as regional favorites.

Which regions have upcoming games that are scheduled that you'd like to see before making the call (e.g., Knott County Central and Perry County Central playing this past week or the games in the 11th on Satursday)?

Which regions are still wide open?

Strongest Favorite (and it's not really close):

2nd - Hopkinsville

Solid Favorites:

11th - Scott County

14th - Knott County Central

15th - Johnson Central

Slight Favorites:

4th - Warren Central

12th - Wayne County

13th - Knox Central

9th Region.......NewCath, CovCath IMO are clearly above the rest of the field.

I wouldn't call Knott a solid favorite in the 14th. I realize that they handily defeated Perry in Hindman Friday, but Perry's 6'6 Justin Johnson had a game he had just as soon forget---he was in foul trouble most of the game, plus he didn't play well when he was in the game. Knott's Evan Hall had his way with him in general. But I kind of look at that game as a freak type of game that doesn't really gage the results of a possible round 2 matchup between the same two teams. Johnson was a non-factor due to his foul problems and a bad night altogether. Beverly didn't do anything in the first half but scored 23 in the second half. Perry got off to a bad start trailing 0-2 due to a T called for a wrong number in the scorebook (ask the Broncos what a bad start can do to your head, lol). Then technicals and fouls started mounting, Knott's Justice went Maravich, frustration set in, and it led to a lopsided defeat for the Commodores. I'm not sure that same scenario will happen when and if they meet again in the regional tournament at Perry. PCC will be motivated to the max to get revenge on their neighboring county. Not saying Perry will beat them, just that it won't be a blowout either way. And who knows, maybe Hazard, Cordia, or even Breathitt might have something to say about who plays who. I mean, Hazard did win the WYMT Mountain Classic with the same key teams involved, and then Cordia won the All A by knocking Hazard out.

It should be an interesting regional tournament.

There are two teams who would shock me if they failed to make it to Rupp: Warren Central & Wayne County. Hopkinsville is almost there with them, but I don't think you can count out Henderson County.

BG has a good team this year. I'd be shocked if it weren't an all 14th district region final, but either WC or BG could win the 4th.

Hard to agree with Trinity as the favorite in the Seventh. Trinity is a tremendous team and has a shot, but I think Ballard must be considered the favorite.

I would have agreed 2 weeks ago. Not anymore. I think cooper made a statement that they can't be overlooked.

I will politely disagree, a 1 pt. loss to CovCath is not a statement, it's an anomaly.

I wouldn't be shocked if Wayne County didn't make it.

Nobody in the 12th is beating Wayne.
