That isn't exactly what I am implying, but you certainly have to have some talent to win. Coaching can be overrated in some cases. It also has to matter to the kids. You can be Ricky P in there, but if your kids accept being average then it doesn't matter how much you know. It also is a matter of if the players believe in you. As a coach if you know every play and defense known to man it doesn't mean squat if the kids don't respect you. I have seen it in so many cases. In regards to everyone's top 2 Coach Goetz and Coach Schlarman, it shows that their players respect them, and that is why they are where they are with good not great players!! The kids have skills and are disciplined and will do what is asked of them to do. It is also a tribute to who the kids are. They are coachable and that may have as much to do with being successful as anything.

Maybe a more appropriate thread would be 9th region and 10th region coach of the year. That would eliminate the age old argument as to whether certain schools should be included.

Goetz had a good group that was coming back this year......Lantry, Steenken, Busse and Ryan all had varsity experiance.......next year i think we will see how good of a coach he really is......I think it has to Go to Schlarman 20 wins from 9 last year that is a tremendous turn around.........my vote goes to Willy

Next year HC will have Ryan, Scruggs, Eifert, Sorrell and Giwa. They will be pretty tough squad next year.

Back on the subject, the NKY Coach of the year is TBD until the end of the Regionals. :lol:

Willie had his whole group back. Maybe they underachieved last year rather than overachieved this year :sssh: . Or maybe the schedule had more than a little to do with the turnaround.

Their schedule seemed fairly difficult this year. Was it tougher last year? Willies true test comes next year when he only has 2 players that have any varsity experience whatsoever.

although taking it forgranted that he does have all kinds of talent but in the first year Lex. Cath. Coach i belive his name is salsman(maybe wrong) but top 25 with his first year. i like to hear that......and Cath. Dont think i like you for this.

Considering the newspaper and the news stations won't consider PC in the Coach of the Year voting for NKY. I will follow suit and give my vote to Coach Goetz. He has done alot more with less returning talent than the others. I would however vote for Coach Biggs for COY in the 10th Region.

I'm not sure I'd agree that Willie has a lot of talent. Other than Vories, I'd consider the rest of them as average players who worked their tails off. Sorry respective players and parents thereof but it was intended as a compliment. I think Willie deserves the nod for taking a bunch of average players, devising a system that they can be successful in and getting them to get the maximum amount out of their talent.
