DirecTV Question

Featured Replies

I've only had 1 winter related issue in my 10+ years, and that was from our first snowfall this season. I just rinsed it off and was good to go.

Unfortunately, it's not in a spot I can get to, especially with all the ice on the ground/roof at the moment. Still out this morning. The lovely folks at DirecTV said (paraphrasing), "Sorry about your luck" essentially, and that it should work again when the temperature gets warm enough to melt the ice...:irked: Looks like I'll have my TV back around Opening Day at this rate.

Mine is completely covered in snow and ice and working like a charm. I guess im lucky.

Same here, never had any issues like that. (Knocks on wood)

Why don't you call Directv and tell them you are switching to Dish because of this issue. I bet they will have someone out in no time to clean your dish.

Maybe, but maybe not. Depends on who you talk to.

I called & told them I wanted to be treated like a new customer in terms of my monthly bill or else I would switch. They told me I "wasn't eligible" for such discounts. One week later, after I'd switched to Dish, a Direct person contacts me & all of a sudden I'm eligible.

It's gotten a lot tougher to do this. They probably get a million calls a day from people threatening to switch, most of which have no intention of switching, and are just trying to get a cheaper bill. You're much more likely to get taken care of if you've had a lot of problems that are documented through calls.

I was a Dish customer for over 15 years and when I bought my 60 inch flat screen and wanted a DVR upgrade, they said sorry. So I called Direct and I switched that day. The following week Dish called me back (after canceling) and said they would give me the upgraded DVR. Sorry! Dish I had already signed an agreement with Direct.

I dont understand why they will not support the customers they have. I've found that I like Direct TV better and can't believe I didn't switch earlier.

I'm presently a Dish customer for the second time. Had Direct for about 3 years & it was a superior product, but Dish is cheaper. I'm sure I'll be back to Direct in December when my 2 years with Dish are up. It's frustrating that they treat new customers better than loyal customers.

It may just be snake oil, but as I've mentioned before, I apply Rain-X to my dish right before winter, and I haven't had any issues. I've heard of a few other things that people use too, like WD-40, Pam cooking spray, etc. There are also dish heaters, but they are fairly pricey and require some electrical work. They also make dish covers, but from what I hear they do reduce your signal quality. One thing people don't think about (I know I didn't) is to not install your dish where it isn't easy to reach. It doesn't have to go on your roof. One other big thing, is to make sure your dish is pointed precisely. Pay the extra $5 a month for the protection plan, and whenever you start experiencing signal issues, call Direct Tv and have someone come out and repoint your dish. If your dish is precisely pointed, you won't have nearly as many issues during bad weather.
All great points....my dish is a good 35 feet above ground level......have to try the rainx next season.

Yes it is! Do they think there are not other options? I can understand while your on 2 year agreement but when that's up, I should be able to get the upgraded like the new customers.

I've had both, and they both act the same way. They won't do a thing until you cancel your service. Then their calling you saying please come back, it's stupid.

Most car insurance is the same way. They give better deals to new customers to get their business.

My experiences with DirecTV have been decidedly different than everyone else apparently...

I think you'll find that every TV provider treats new customers better than existing ones. They don't value loyalty, they value new money. There's probably some metric out there that says if you treat your existing customers like crap you'll lose x% of them but by focusing on new customers you'll gain enough to offset and more.
