February 5, 201412 yr So my dish has been frozen since last night....No TV for me all day. Anyone know what I can do to get it to work again? Not much you can do except physically cleaning off the dish. I've always used Rain-x on my dish a few times a year. It's kept ice and snow off my dish.
February 5, 201412 yr Not sure where it's mounted or if you can get to it easily but I've heard people suggest hair dryers but not on extremely high settings.
February 6, 201412 yr I know I'm pressing my luck, but I've still yet to have any issue with my DirecTV dish from winter weather. Not sure why I've been so lucky, but I hope it continues!

February 6, 201412 yr Yeah, we're frozen as well......ours rarely goes out...frustrating today......but I can't get up to it. After the weather brakes, I'll make sure to do whatever is necessary so it doesn't happen next year.

Honestly I'm just so fed up with Time Warner that it needs to happen, but this is something that I haven't considered. It may just be snake oil, but as I've mentioned before, I apply Rain-X to my dish right before winter, and I haven't had any issues. I've heard of a few other things that people use too, like WD-40, Pam cooking spray, etc. There are also dish heaters, but they are fairly pricey and require some electrical work. They also make dish covers, but from what I hear they do reduce your signal quality. One thing people don't think about (I know I didn't) is to not install your dish where it isn't easy to reach. It doesn't have to go on your roof. One other big thing, is to make sure your dish is pointed precisely. Pay the extra $5 a month for the protection plan, and whenever you start experiencing signal issues, call Direct Tv and have someone come out and repoint your dish. If your dish is precisely pointed, you won't have nearly as many issues during bad weather.
February 6, 201412 yr Seriously, the hot water thing works if your dish is in a place you can get too. This has happened to us twice over the years. It doesn't have to be boiling water, just hot water from the tap. Pour a couple of pitchers on the LNB and also a couple on the dish surface.
February 6, 201412 yr I had my Dish put where I could reach it. I've used a broom to sweep snow and ice off it twice. No big deal. This is the first winter I've ever had to do it and I'm in Michigan so I don't think this is something that would happen every year.
