February 5, 201412 yr This is one of the better threads I've read in a while -- all this bottled-up right-wing rage and angst spilling out. I'm betting the ice storm is part of the reason why everyone is feeling so sour today.

February 5, 201412 yr They did........they knew exactly what they were doing. To think otherwise would be naïve in my opinion. I guess you are right. It also tips the voter balance further to their side, since the more voters who become dependent on the government, the more likely they stay in control.

February 5, 201412 yr How much would have cost to have insured the 30 million (if that's even correct) each year? Answer: A lot less than the ACA cost to enact and maintain. US could have just extended insurance to those people and left the rest of us alone and saved the USA Trillions and Trillions over the next 20 years
February 5, 201412 yr As I posted on the other thread on this topic, go to Lt. Col. Allen West's (retired) site, allenbwest.com. The Chairman of the Economic Council said being laid off is a good thing. You can draw welfare and spend more time with your family.

US could have just extended insurance to those people and left the rest of us alone and saved the USA Trillions and Trillions over the next 20 years 30 million individual/family policies would probably have been somewhere around 90 billion a year. How many billions in a trillion again?

February 5, 201412 yr Have you heard the WH spin? This is a good thing. People will now have the freedom to leave their jobs and follow their dreams. I'm more convinced that there are many on the left who want nothing more then an uneducated, unmotivated electorate. Yup. Lots of them on the right in the red-state south too. No side of the aisle has cornered the market on morons.
February 5, 201412 yr From what I've read it seems like the narrative is misleading. It sounds like we're saying companies will be decreasing the number of workers they need by 2M ie workers want to work but the companies can't afford them. I don't think that's quite accurate. Politifact says the report specifically says that those people (2M) will choose NOT to work because they don't need to. That's not the same thing, right? http://www.politifact.com/punditfact/statements/2014/feb/05/gretchen-carlson/carlson-cbo-says-obamcare-will-cut-full-time-jobs-/ "It will not represent an increase in either the unemployment rate or the number of unemployed workers," said Gary Burtless, an economist at the Brookings Institution, a Washington-based academic research center. "Workers who now have access to less expensive health insurance through Medicaid or with refundable federal tax credits that help them pay for premiums will not want to work such long hours after the ACA becomes fully implemented."
February 5, 201412 yr Correct, it would result from people refusing work so they could maintain their tax funded discounts.
February 5, 201412 yr Correct, it would result from people refusing work so they could maintain their tax funded discounts. That's the way I read it. The "it's going to cost 2.3M jobs" narrative just isn't accurate.
February 6, 201412 yr That's the way I read it. The "it's going to cost 2.3M jobs" narrative just isn't accurate. Employers would disagree as they operate on man hours.
February 6, 201412 yr Employers would disagree as they operate on man hours. I am not sure what you are saying.
