Once again just repeating talking point drival...Walmart stock is near an all time high, sales are at record levels even in bad or slow months.

What exactly does "Embrace the public assistance solution" mean?

Wal-Mart's stock performance over the past 12 months lags way behind both Costco and the S&P 500. Click on the following chart.

A snap shot, of a year in which Walmart stock also hit an All-Time high! But that doesn't fit your view. Walmart stock over the last 5 years has went from around $50 to a high of over $80 a few months ago, stock is trading around $73 this morning. Walmart is fine even if that's not what you want to hear.

I have no "view to fit." I'm simply looking at WMT as an investor would, and the stock's 12-month performance chart (up only 2.5% or thereabouts) trails both Costco and the S&P 500. (By the way, I hope all your 401(k) money isn't tied up in WMT stock. Diversify.) I'm also highly critical of companies that pay "associates" so little they have to turn to the government for supplemental benefits, but I don't want to keep beating that horse. I've made my point.

My biggest complaint about Costco is that they don't have a store in Northern Kentucky.

You've made no point, Walmart pays beyond the rest of the industry. Walmart employees more females and minorities in hourly and management positions than any company in America. More than 50% of the salaried managers at Walmart came from the hourly ranks (making from $42K to well over $100K) The average hourly wage while not exorbitant is over $13 per hour (I know 100's personally that make well over $20 per hour that are not salaried managers) in Kentucky which is close to double the minimum wage so don't come at me like you know what your talking about on this subject because you don't have a clue.

I suppose a myriad of small businesses would pop up and replace Wal-Mart -- you know, those mom-and-pop hardware stores, independent grocers and tire stores that Wal-Mart put out of business with competitive pricing and a mix of minimum wages and public assistance.

That really wasn't the best question to ask, 75.

No what would happen is a large competitor of Wal-Mart would swoop in and take their business. I think reading some books on business and econmics would help you.

TKO Jumper_Dad has him down for the count. Just stop commenting Twotoplace you are making statements that have been proven wrong over and over. You need to get out of the liberal talking points and read up on how the business world and economy works. Quit with the business is bad mantra it gets you know where.

Ironically, I just treated a part time Walmart employee this morning who had insurance provided by Walmart

Was this person eligible for the indigent discount?

I've been taking a close look at WMT's stock performance as a result of today's chat. I'm not buying JD's "all is good" spiel.

Yeah that's why they are recommended as a "STRONG BUY" by most brokerage houses on Wall St. because they have a failing business model...:lol2:

Zacks has a sell on WMT. I would not be a buyer at this price, especially given its lackluster performance over the past 12 months compared to the benchmark S&P 500. You know, at one point I believed about half of your WMT observations. Now it's down to about 20 percent, partly based on your unsubstantiated stock hype.

As a humorous aside, wife and I just returned from Wal-Mart. She was not happy that so few registers were open.

You frequently sound like some kid two years out of college -- the one who kept his Econ 101 textbook.

I'll run out and ask her before she hangs up her call on her I-phone 5 and shuts the door on her new Escalade.

Glad you were able to find someone with a sell...BRAVO. You can dismiss everything I said because you found one thread to pick at but I will tell you nothing I said in those post was hyperbola or from some talking point. I was there for 30 years and no longer have any connection to the company, I stated facts as I saw them and lived them. It is not perfect by any means and there are several things that I'm not a fan of, that said not of the left wing drivel that you spewed in this thread has any merit. You just like to continue to throw accusations out there until you find something no one will refute. Who ever is paying you to spread your message is wasting their money as no one is buying what you are selling.

Gold, I presume, to cover the cost of her bill? :D

I'll answer because it's un-telling what he'll come up with.

Walmart pays over $8 Billion a year in taxes and collect Billions and Billions more in sales taxes for the states.

Here are some numbers just for Kentucky

Suppliers:

Spent with suppliers: $1.5 billion

Supplier jobs supported: 32,386

*Supplier figures provided by Dun & Bradstreet for FYE 2013

Taxes and Fees:

Collected: $235.7 million

Paid: $40.6 million

*Collected on behalf of the state of Kentucky as part of transactional sales of taxable goods and services for FYE 2013

And you haven't touched on payrolls even!
