And thanks in advance for breaking down the figures in terms of mean, median and mode. We also would be interested in what percentage of Wal-Mart associates receive federal assistance (food stamps, Medicaid, etc).

Average wage in Ky is $13.18 which is higher than in any surrounding state. Starting wage depends on store location, position and experience when getting hired. As I stated earlier I know hourly associates working on the floor that are making in excess of $20 per hour in many stores. Plus Walmart pays the majority share of health insurance for those that chose to enroll in it. No idea about assistance numbers, contrary to your beliefs Walmart doesn't track that.

If three managers make $100,000 a year each, and 20 associates make $10,000 a year each, the "average wage" is $21,739 per worker. That's why "average wage" is misleading.

Managers are not used in the average wage...I figured that's what you were angling at. If someone is making around $10K or less then they aren't working but around 20 or so hours per week. In my experience if someone is only working 20 hours a week it is because that is all they want to work. Due to another job, school or not wanting anymore work than that

Part time? That only works in free markets - free labor markets. The BigG people want everyone to do the same thing. I remember explaining to someone in Luxembourg that we had a guy who worked 4 a.m. to noon each day taking care of requests that came in overnight and the bubble of morning requests. In Luxembourg they could not even start to understand the working hours. That was because their law requires all workers to work one of the three main shifts. There is no such thing as a split shift or swing shift. I did not even try to explain 12 hour days with 3-on, 4-off, 4-on, 3-off rotations.

Went from stockman at 16yo to running 3 stores for the company. When senseless stuff is posted I will set the record straight. I don't think any of the other posters work at Walmart.

However, I have yet to receive a real answer on the low wage-government assistance deal. Also sounds like some of your overly defensive positions are because you still hold a heck of a lot of WMT stock in your 401k.

Also sounds like some of your overly defensive positions are because you still hold a heck of a lot of WMT stock in your 401k.No longer have any Walmart Holdings, got sick and had to use everything to pay off stuff to take care of my family. I'm still not sure what you are asking about the low-wage government assistance question. There are people on Govt assistance that are school teachers, construction workers, truck drivers and just about any vocation you can think of. Walmarts wages as I have stated over and over are above industry average and the opportunities are there for advancement for anyone willing to work hard. Entry level jobs at a store are just like entry level jobs anywhere else, except Walmart has ALWAYS paid above what ever the prevailing minimum wage was on their on accord. You champion Mom and Pops, but talk to some one that worked at those stores. No insurance, no guaranteed yearly pay increases, no real benefits of any kind. My wife's aunt was a produce manager for a "Mom and Pop" grocery store for 15 years, in 15 years she received 50cents in raises while most in the store received none. Walmart isn't perfect but it is not the demon you and others make it out to be either.
