Philip Seymour Hoffman Found Dead

I can finally agree with you on something in this thread. Never understood why people want to glorify those who die from drugs, whether they overdose like this guy or shoot themselves while on drugs like Kurt Cobain. Stupid. All they are to me is another wasted life.

That has been my point all along.

What I hate is when the reason is swept under the rug because others enjoy doing the same thing and they think it is harmless so why deal with the problem and instead choose to ignore it.

For every celebrity that dies of a drug overdose or kills themselves while being high there are 1000's of joe schmoes that doesn't make the news.

I guess what scares me the most is young people who idolize these people and actually think if their heroes do these drugs and can perform the way they do then maybe drugs will help them in reaching their dreams.

Just a sad state we find ourselves in sometimes.

Ummmm, have to disagree with you here on the bolded part RM. Texting while driving is distracted driving, not impaired driving. Some might look at it as semantics...and essentially if one is being continuously distracted while driving then it could definitely be argued that it has the same or even worse affect as driving impaired. However, if I'm driving while eating a hamburger, take a curve too fast and almost lose it, I can put that hamburger down and wait to eat it later, instantly becoming un-distracted and giving 100% full cognitive attention to the road. Can't do that while impaired with alcohol or drugs...and yes, we do WAY too much distracted driving as well.

Interesting topic. I fall along the same line of thinking as Hellbird does in so far as just thinking legalizing pot is a bad thing and I'm a big anti-drug guy as well. I think though HB my friend, some of the arguments you have expressed here are a little hard to follow. Now, the story you tell of the young girl in the back seat of the wreck...that's just devastating and very sad. Something like that is bound to shake anyone to their core.

I may not express my thoughts the best way when translating them to text. But my point is that marijuana is a mind altering drug and to think it does not impair the persons judgement is wrong. Whether they be behind the wheel of a car or not. Glorifying drugs in any way, even if it is as simple as saying pot doesn't harm anyone is what drives me crazy because the fact of the matter is it does and a lot of times it's the people around the user it ends up hurting.

I was wondering why this topic had 5 pages then I opened it and saw we are having another debate on pot being legal.

Haha, it will die down some. I've made my point and said my peace. Apparently I and Bluto are in the minority and that is fine because we see the difference in a cell phone and drugs. We'll just choose to be different and go against the grain on this one.

Ummmm...hello...I just said I agreed with you as well HB. Just didn't follow some of your arguments...but agree with the premise for sure. And I have said for years that the argument for legalizing pot because alcohol is legal is very spurious at best.

They found LOTS of heroin in his room.

Sorry...didn't mean to leave you out.

We do agree on this.

Also I took it for granted me and you agreed on this lol. We are twins remember lol.

50 bags is a decent amount .

Saw something like 50 bags!

Maybe he was researching a part in a movie.

Generally, a "bag" is 100mg of heroin. Its effect is comparable to a single 10mg dose of oxycontin. A general starter prescription for oxycontin is one 10mg pill every 12 hours. That's not the rate of abuse....that's a normal, low dosage amount, prescribed by a doctor. (Oxy pills come in sizes from 5mg-60mg.) Most of the people I've met who abuse(d) heroin were using about once every three or four hours, seen as heroin's effects are not terribly long lasting.

More experienced users will frequently cook up as many as 3 "bags" into a single hit of heroin, and some will do that 4 or 5 times a day. So that's not to say that 50 bags isn't a large amount.....but it may well have only been a three to five day stash worth of heroin.

I'm sorry you all feel that way. As a person who has wittnessed drug addiction first hand I can tell you that it's a scary disease. It affects everyone around you and makes life miserable. PSH was clean for 23 years but the disease still won in the end.
I used heavy for 7 years and quit cold turkey and never had a setback and never see me having one.Only the weak I.M.O. have set backs, when it comes to things like this.

Good for you!! I love hearing stories like this.

i have a cousin whose daughter is hooked bad. So bad I couldn't tell you the number of times she has been in and out of re-hab, hospitals and jail. It's a sad and sick disease I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

It is like cancer in a way that it eats your mind and body. Very sad. So proud of you. Not a lot of people can admit they have a problem and then to conquer it is awesome.
