Philip Seymour Hoffman Found Dead

Featured Replies

None from "Along Came Polly"? Ridiculous. He was never funnier / better than he was as Sandy Lyle. Comedy gold!

None from Boogie Nights also

Such a great actor. Such an awful thing to hear about yesterday. Like you MJ, I didn't believe my fiancé when she told me.

For some reason, I thought he was older than 46.

Saw on Twitter, that it's thought he's another casualty from a "tainted" batch of heroin that's been making the rounds. Just awful. When does it end?

I'm to the point where I'm not feeling sorry for them anymore. Another celebrity dies of drugs and yet there's still a push to legalize marijuana everywhere. Yes it wasn't pot that killed him but it was illegal drugs and the society just seems to make these idiots out to be some kind of martyr.

Hoffman dies from a heroin overdose and is literally found dead with a needle in his arm...and you're stuck on legalizing marijuana?

Do you not see ANY difference in the two substances?

I'm not an idiot, I know the differences. My point is many think pot is fine and harmless and don't seem to think about how drugs such as that often times lead to more dangerous drugs etc. With your point of thinking there is nothing wrong is one of the main problems with this society today.

You don't think there is anything wrong with heroin? do you know why heroin is so rampant in this area and across the country today? Because it is cheap, it is very affordable and is widely used because of that and the high you get from it.

To think it's ok to smoke pot but not ok to do heroin makes no sense to me.

I think the answer to that is pretty simple....Pot doesn't have the possibility of killing you each time you use it, where as heroin obviously does. When's the last time someone died from smoking pot?

There's really no comparison between the two IMO.

I do not think smoking pot leads to other drugs JUST BECAUSE you smoke pot. I just don't buy all that gateway drug hype. There have to be other factors involved, in my opinion, such as an addictive gene that causes you to keep searching for a better high. Just like some people can have one drink of alcohol and walk away and others can't stop until they pass out.

You really don't want to get into that debate with me. I will give you a quick story and you will then know why I stand where I do on this topic.

First week I was ever turned lose on my own after training in Law Enforcement. Working in AZ, dispatched on a injury accident, possible fatalities. I roll up on a 2 car accident on a 4 lane highway in the desert. 4 year old girl trapped in the back seat of the car with both her parents dead in the front seat, her dad had been decapitated by a guardrail they hit when a car coming the other direction crossed over into their lane hitting them. Killing the mother and father instantly. It took the Fire Dept 45 mins to free the little girl who was stuck inside the car the entire time staring at her dead parents. The subject who struck them was higher than a kite, he walked away from the accident with only a broken arm and foot. He had been smoking he said for the last 2 hours.

Don't tell me pot is harmless.

If you are talking about overdosing...no you can't OD on Pot as far as I know, but who cares? I could care less if every heroin user OD'ed, they did it to themselves. IT's when drug users end up hurting innocent bystanders is when I get irate and both can lead to that.

He OD'ed, I won't shed a tear for him because he OD'ed.

Do you think alcohol should be illegal?

Stupidest argument ever and it always comes up.

Does 2 wrongs make a right?

1) Chill out dude. I simply have a differing opinion than you. I'm not trying to debate anything.

2) I never once said pot was harmless. Smoking pot didn't kill anyone in your example. Being stupid and driving after smoking pot did. No different than drinking and driving.

How can you say smoking pot didn't kill anyone in my example?!?!?!?!?!

POT IS WHY THEY ARE DEAD!!!!

So are you saying someone drunk and gets behind the wheel and kills someone because they were driving impaired but it's ok because alcohol had nothing to do with it?

Pot alone is not why anyone dies. The choices made by someone who smoked pot is why they're dead. If someone sits in their home and smokes a few joints, plays some video games and orders a pizza, no harm done. If a person smokes a few joints, decides to go cruising up and down the interstate, that's dangerous. The decision to smoke didn't harm anyone. The decision to smoke, then get behind the wheel did.

My point, and I'll post no more in this thread because arguing with you is a useless exercise, is that whether it be smoking pot, or drinking beer, neither act in and of itself is going to kill someone. The decisions and choices made by someone who has smoked or drank, can be dangerous, and unfortunately deadly. Owning a gun in and of itself is not harmful to anyone. The choices of how to use the gun are what can be dangerous.

It boils down to this: the singular act of smoking pot is harmless (note, that's not to say the choices one makes when impaired by it can be deadly/dangerous). The singular act of shooting up with heroin can be deadly.

Shooting up with heroin isn't going to kill someone either unless they overdose or get a bad batch.

To say it's ok because the drug itself can't kill yo uis stupid because the actions it causes one to do after taking the drug CAN kill someone.

HB, some people just don't "want" to get it.
