This is true. I wonder if this could play into his decision making thought process if offered the job.

Again, I'm not speaking for Coach Perry BUT this is the second time he applied for this job since he left and if Danville hadn't lied to him and told him he was the coach in waiting then he would have taken the job last time....so he will take it this time.....MY OPINION!! I feel like there will have to be some things in place for him but it's ultimately up to GCHS to pull the trigger and make it happen. Unfortunately, past performance sometimes leads to future performance....hiring coaches.....let's cross our fingers they do the RIGHT thing this time.

 

 

I could give you other facts on why I'm not 100% sure they will hire him but I can't. I might if they don't hire him but can't right now.

Yes. It's in this thread somewhere. I was thinking more along the lines of maybe his kid wanting to stay and play for Boyle but nevermind. That question was answered.

Ok maybe he didn't apply for the Garrard job the last time but I do know he was approached and was talked to about it.....went back to Danville and I think was told they wanted him as coach in waiting. I believe he applied to the Pikeville job a different year....not sure about the Pikeville thing but believe it went that way. Either way....apply or be approached....that means there is interest by the parties involved. Applying is just a formality if someone is approached for a job. Just ask Chuck Smith.....he was approached to coach Boyle County but I'm sure he ended up having to apply as a formality. Oh and by the way, there was no committee formed to hire him....they knew who they wanted and went after him.

That may be true. It could just be their opinion. I will say that most people on BGP post facts or informed opinions instead of speculation. Folks don't want to be the member that no one listens to because they are always wrong.

To reaffirm, Perry & Jaggers have both applied for the GCHS head coaching job. They're 2, of at least 8 candidates, who have head coaching experience & who have applied for the position. Most of the leg work, as far as interviewing, etc., is being handled by the school's site-based council. With 17 or 18 total applicants, there's a lot of work that has to be done & done properly.

I get that if your going to be teaching you have to be approved by the site base council to teach but in no way should they be involved in hiring a coach or approve the hiring a coach. Reguardless of what you know and I agree with you on the processes you speak of.....a school that has quality coaches and programs hire the coach and then hire them as a teacher. In so many words they tell the site base council......this is our coach.....this is your teacher. I know your going to say there are rules to follow and all that business that I've heard from that school before but I can tell you there are rules but there are ways around those rules that still will make it a legal hire. I say this because I know some of them on the site base council and either one don't care about athletics or even worse don't even know what a football looks like.

I agree 100%. Everybody has something good to bring to BGP.

If they want Perry they could have already hired him. There is no requirement for committees to be involved. That is a fact. I know coaches mentioned in this very thread topic that were hired without anyone interviewing them except the Principal. The teaching job came later with the same process. If the principal is trusted as being competent enough it should be done this way imo because the coach has to work directly with that principal in the daily operations of school. Sometimes the principals at these schools admittedly don't know enough to make the right hire so they form big committees to give input. The negative on that is that the water can get muddied on what to do. This also gives the principal others they can shift blame to if there is political fallout from the hire. It can be done and should have already IMO. If GCHS is serious about making this happen then pull the trigger. The lack of movement says to me that someone is either not truly wanting JP or they are afraid to do the things it will take imo.

There may be another coach with very impressive credentials, too, that we don't know about. Also, the job has only been open for what, a week or so? Let's relax a little (me included) & see what happens. We just might see something this week, but that's a total guess on my part.

Very good point.

Looks like Coach Scenters was one of 3 coaches to have a winning record. Won the schools only region title and from what I heard cares about the kids and is a man of faith. If people had a problem with him they probabaly need to look in the mirror.

Does anyone know why Coach Perry resigned from GC the first time in the 90's. His record was outstanding.

I am guessing he was pursuaded to go to Danville.
