Not for nothing, I've always considered everything west of I-65 and south of E-town western KY. That would make BG, technically, Western KY (well, not Greenwood H.S., but you get my drift :bunny:).

Do people out in the state really consider Oldham County more a part of Northern Kentucky than part of Louisville? Heck, everything out to LaGrange is practically a suburb at this point.

 

Nahh.....folks from Northern Kentucky are pretty snobby about which counties they choose to include in their exclusive club of counties. Oldham County definitely doesn't make the cut. Trimble and Henry don't either.

 

If you're from Boone, Kenton or Campbell counties, then generally your opinion is that NKY is only Boone, Kenton or Campbell counties.

 

If you're from Gallatin, Grant, Pendleton or Bracken counties, then generally your opinion is that NKY is Boone, Kenton, Campbell, Gallatin, Grant, Pendleton and Bracken counties.

 

Some folks from the northern portion of Harrison county call themselves Northern Kentuckians, but most identify themselves more with greater-Lexington or the central Bluegrass region.

 

Carroll and Owen counties....well....they're just kinda Carroll and Owen counties :lol2:

Do you live in that area? If so then your looking locally not how someine from 150 miles away sees it

 

If it's north of Lex it's No Ky to everyone else...if it's east of Lex it Ashland!

 

I get that, but I was just thinking in travel. Here in Cynthiana you can get to Lexington in 30 minutes, but it will take 45 minutes to get to the Southern border of Campbell County. As for Carlisle its, 45 minutes from Lexington and 2 hours from Ashland. And both are even closer as the crow flies.

Whenever driving/riding that direction, I always felt like I was in WKY upon entering the Central Time Zone.

There is no line or official designation as we all know and it can be different to different people. I for instance, and many others, consider BG to be in WKY. The reason is much the same as the reason WKY is located there. It is a hub for folks in WKY being the largest and most influential city in the area. So folks further west find themselves heading there to do and buy things, events are there, ect... That is why I consider BG to be in WKY.

Please focus more time on geography in schools.

I guess it depends on where you are located. Bowling Green is so far from the western counties most people drive to Nashville. If "Western Kentucky" was called "Bowling Green State" then Bowling Green would not be considered in Western Kentucky. And as was pointed out a few weeks ago, the name "Western Kentucky University" came about because it is west of UK, not because it is in the western part of the state.
