January 28, 201412 yr My grandfather drinks a little bourbon but a great deal of vodka. Go north and you'll find less and less whiskey every mile. And bourbon is definitely on the fringe outside Kentucky. Michigan actually has a couple bourbon distilleries now. When I moved here 3 years ago at most bars your only choices were Woodford,Makers, and Beam. But things have changed. Bourbon is turning into a popular spirit.

I actually don't have anything against vodka or gin. Enjoy them both. But I'm at about 80% bourbon consumption vs other liquors and truthfully since I started triathlon training beer makes up the majority of my alcohol intake (and liquid intake). But I am saddened that America's "native spirit" is not drank more.

January 28, 201412 yr Only 21% of the US population chooses liquor as their beverage of choice. Almost the same number of men and women choose liquor. That may give some reason to the vodka thing. My experience is most US women don't drink whiskey. Beer has been number one for a long time 44%. Men out number women 2-1 in this category. Wine comes in at 35%. Women out number men 2.5-1 in this category.

January 28, 201412 yr I'm ashamed that our Bourbon is now owned by the Japanese!!! I'm a Vodka guy. Martini up with a twist any day over the dark stuff. Mrs. TAC goes to "the dark Side", as we call it, every once in a while. I do look forward to hitting part of the Bourbon trail this week while in Frankfort.
January 28, 201412 yr Didn't taste bourbon until after I gave up drinking. Toured a few years ago with some out of town relatives. Glad me and bourbon never got acquainted when I did partake! Did really enjoy hubby's sugar cookies, fresh out of the oven with some Four Roses brushed over the top just last week though. He cooks with a lot of different alcohols.
January 28, 201412 yr So many things you can mix vodka with. And all the diff flavors of vodka just show how popular it's become. IMO bourbon is an acquired taste, you either love it or can't stand it.
