Seems like the A tourney has no excitement until you get to about the semi-finals of the state. The regionals seem to be traditionally dreadful as far as having competitive games.

8th Region usually has a couple of good games in the All A tourney. Since it is not seeded sometimes the better games are in the first round.

1st region is usually a great tournament. All done at a neutral site and from Saturday to Saturday. Boys and girls the same week.

This year it is down but not due to the merger. Heath was always a top team but Reidland was not.

The main reason Region 1 is down this year is that District 1 is the weakest I can ever remember it this year, although Carlisle had a big win last night. Ballard, Mayfield and Murray also haven't quite lived up to expectations. Taking Heath out of the tournament every year will definitely hurt though. They have been an annual contender. Even Reidland had been a slight All A threat the last couple of years. Reidland and Heath both would have been likely contenders this year.

Right now there are only two in the Seventh: Kentucky Country Day and Collegiate. But I think Tony Williams has already started putting something fun together at St. Francis. It could definitely happen in Louisville.

The 8th Region Tournament is always competitive. I don't think there will be one running clock in the entire tournament.

The 14th region All A has been won more times by Hazard than any school in the region since the tournament went state-wide in 1990. But I'd like to proudly state that my county school, Owsley, has won the region 4 times and was runner up in the state tourney in 1990 and semi-finalist in 2000. Buckhorn has had 3 titles. Cordia won it this year. Knott wasn't in it this year after winning it last year. But overall, the 14th is usually competitive.

The 12th Region only has 3 teams eligible and they are Burgin, Danville and Somerset. Danville and Somerset will meet in the final tomorrow night and I expect that game to go down to the wire. It should be a great game.

The 12th Region All "A" used to be a good tournament. There were six teams, the three current, along with Garrard County, Harrodsburg and Monticello. But two of those schools closed and one got too big and now its a shell of itself.

To add to that, the 12th Region final is boys at 6 and then girls at 7:30. So two games tomorrow night at Somerset.
