You've got to have some balance and you have to be able to get on base and score some runs. Depends on how you look at it. From my perspective, while I'd LOVE a WS. I really just want a team that competes with a legit shot of making the WS. I'd take a NLCS, at this point. Like I said, if you're talking WS Champs then yes, they need a little more of a balance. To be able to compete with all teams in a 5/7 game series, pitching takes you further than offense. I'd take my chances with that any day.

Their is a better chance to improve your lineup in July and August than there is to improve your starting rotation. They have holes. Starting pitching isn't one if them. If they're buyers for offense they have a chance...ie 2102 Giants added Pence.
January 16, 201412 yr Author I am not optimistic about the starting pitching staying healthy all year. Cueto, Latos, Cig all with injuries last year ...........I just do not see them all lasting an entire season and not missing starts.

The Reds pitching has been fine the last couple of years but their offense hasn't been good enough to make a run in the playoffs.

January 16, 201412 yr The numbers don't bear that out. The Reds pitching has been fine the last couple of years but their offense hasn't been good enough to make a run in the playoffs. I disagree. They were a freak injury to Johnny Cueto away from advancing to the NLCS just two years ago and made the playoffs last year. They were just fine offensively and the runs scored stats recently show that. You have to be pretty lucky in the playoffs to advance. Boston got extremely lucky to win game 2 of this years ALCS or there may be a totally different champion. I will agree that the Reds need to improve their offense at some point this season, but their window is most certainly open with their pitching staff.
