January 16, 201412 yr Yes...decidedly. I said it when they fired Dusty, and I knew what other shoes would drop, they'd win 75 games. Nothing has been done since to change my opinion. Interesting.
January 16, 201412 yr Nothing else has happened since they fired Dusty.... Well the CF'er is gone, Phillips is dangling like a piece of meat, and a Bailey deal is sitting on a back burner waiting for the BP deal. I'd give you good odds this is the Opening Day starting 8: Meso Votto Skip Zach Jersey Ludwick Hamilton Bruce That is gross, and, the core of a 75 win team. Listen, there is no one on this board that wants me to be wrong more than I do. No. One. This team is financially strapped, they are built poorly, and it is going to take time to fix it. In the meantime, BP is about to be 10/5, so there is nearly zero chance he is here in April (they are trying like fools to make something happen), Leake (yawn) is about to get a huge raise through arbitration, and other ho-hum guys are a year or two away from cashing in. Too much reliance on Hamilton. Too many ho-hum white dudes that'll hit about .250. Nothing to speak of in AAA. I can't even believe this is debate, to be honest.
January 16, 201412 yr ^They can't force a team to take BP. I want them to get rid of him, and do it for whatever they can get, but no one wants a old, physically deteriorating clubhouse cancer that's owed a boatload of money.

Do you not think I understand that? I think we all get what the issues are, at least those in this conversation / thread. They'll end up having to eat most / all of the deal, but that is still better than him getting 10/5 rights and them being stuck with him.

I'm not arguing with you, I'm simply saying I don't think it's a given they'll be able to move him by Opening Day. Take away the money aspect of it. Still don't think there's much of a market for him. They've gotta have someone willing to take him on, even if they pay his salary.
January 16, 201412 yr Anyone think the Reds have basically accepted no trade with BP right now and are hoping he has a really good first half so they increase his value and able to trade for a little more by the deadline?
January 16, 201412 yr Anyone think the Reds have basically accepted no trade with BP right now and are hoping he has a really good first half so they increase his value and able to trade for a little more by the deadline? No, because his 10/5 No-Trade kicks in before then.
January 16, 201412 yr No, because his 10/5 No-Trade kicks in before then. Gotcha, wasn't sure when they kick in. I'd imagine they want to trade him before that though
January 16, 201412 yr Gotcha, wasn't sure when they kick in. I'd imagine they want to trade him before that though No question. He strikes me as the type of guy that would refuse any trade just out of spite.
January 16, 201412 yr No question. He strikes me as the type of guy that would refuse any trade just out of spite. When does his rights kick in? I'd imagine other teams going to wait it out now.
January 17, 201412 yr So they lose Bronson and Choo and this is a 75 win team? I'm not buying that. I trust Memttatloougssthkifd and his sources but I'm not so sure this BP trade ends up happening if they haven't found a partner yet. As they sit now I believe it's a 90 win team.

Does the Bailey deal bring back a guy/guys that can help right away?
January 17, 201412 yr Does the Bailey deal bring back a guy/guys that can help right away? Hopefully -- but who knows? Bailey won't re-sign here, everyone knows it, so once again, they are going to market in a deleveraged position.
