Yea I believe Freedom Hall is considered a "City Commission Venue" now and not a University venue.

 

Someone brought a good point up to me though....X and T are able to move their game to Papa John's Stadium every year to accommodate the crowd.

 

That leads me to believe that Newcath could move their game with Holmes to BOKC but a double header with Dixie/Covcath would be a no-no as it could be viewed as a showcase, even though it isn't.

Just saw a sign at Regents that had 2,000 as capacity. Not sure if that is for a basketball game or total capacity ?

That's not for basketball in a normal setting. If you recall NKU had to bring in temporary seating to get capacity to the 2000 mark in order to host some D2 playoffs which mandated a 2000 fan capacity. And that may have even been before one whole side became actual chair back seats.

That's a little above my pay grade but I'll take an educated guess:

 

I'd assume a showcase is any event that is by invite only. Teams can play in showcases throughout the year...Holmes will play in the Joe B Hall, Covcath in the KY-IN Challenge, and the KOB/RBC could be viewed as showcases for Newcath. These "showcases" simply can't be played in an NCAA university arena as it could give that university a recruiting advantage as they have pull with the event organizers and could make sure certain teams are invited to get their recruits in their building and on their floor. That's what happened with Dixie Pike's sr year. One of the players on a team invited was a Lvill recruit.

 

Again, this is all just my best guess.

I think when it comes down to it, the Newcath/Holmes game will be fine to be played at BOKC.

I think it'd be cool if it was played at Regents. BOKC is going to feel empty and kill the atmosphere.

I'm relatively sure this is a NCAA D-I basketball only rule, which prevents the university from hosting any regular season or preseason events in their home venue. I'm not going to look the rule up, as the NCAA bylaws are a lot of work, but this is what I seem to remember. Rule was implemented only a couple of years ago at best.

 

NKY fans may remember high school games being played at both the Shoe (UC's home court) and Cintas not that long ago, this rule made those go away. Rule also applies to AAU events, which is why Cintas and the Shoe also recently stopped hosting a couple of those a summer.

 

Schools can still host postseason action, which is why EKU can host the 11th Region, MSU the 16th region, BOKC the 9th region, and UC and Xavier will both host multiple Ohio playoff games as well.

 

Rule is a basketball only rule, which is why X and T can play at the Pizza Box during the regular season. Same reason UC can host Crosstown games and selected regular season games during the year as well.

Thanks, I know those capacity signs can mean various arrangements. It just seems bigger than 400 seats larger than NCC especially with the fold up bleachers behind the one end zone.

It's my understanding that games CAN be played at BOK, Cintas, Rupp as long as a)it's scholastic vs AAU and b)not run by a promoter.

 

I would expect to see at least Holmes/NCC and maybe CCH/Dixie on the 14th.
