January 10, 201412 yr I heard Neal Brown on the radio today. Said that the QB spot is wide open. Said any and all will have a chance to win the job. Said Reese Phillips throws the prettiest deep ball of the bunch. Said the RS year for Patrick Towles will greatly benefit him. Says he still needs to work on a quick release. Said Drew Barker has what it takes to win the job as a true frosh. Didn't say much about Jalen other than he got the most snaps last year which helps him a bit. Said the will NOT take a long time like last season to name a starter. Probably not going to figure it out in spring practice but that will be when he figures out who can compete. I'd look for Phillips and Barker to get a lot of snaps in spring to see what UK has in each of them. Max will not participate in sprint practice.
January 10, 201412 yr I love UK football and we all love talking about the QB's but we better figure out who is playing left tackle first. If not, all of these guys will take snaps next season out of desperation/injury.
January 10, 201412 yr I think the sooner they move Jalen to TE the better. I'm guessing it will be between Barker and Phillips with PT either transfering/being happy as a back up.

With that said, I think that potentially could answer some questions about who the QB will be. What's everybody's opinion on this (those that saw both play regularly)?

I never saw either play in high school. At this point Towles will be in his 3rd year. If he can't seperate himself from Barker and Phillips to point it's clear cut who is the best then it's time for him to accept the inevitable.

I asked these very questions of someone close to Barker and I think the jury is still out.

If not, all of these guys will take snaps next season out of desperation/injury. Neal talked about a lot of young talent that they chose to redshirt last year that could have contributed. Bigger and stronger with a year under their belt. Hopefully that pays off.

Drew was as well. As Neal said, one of Pat's issues is the amount of time it takes to get the ball out of his hands. Drew has an advantage in that area. I'm a fan of both but I'm a UK football fan to so I just want the best QB to play.
January 10, 201412 yr Author Towles throws the better ball and Barker is the better runner. Drew isn't going to be a runner in college. Again, Pat has to learn how to get the ball out quickly. It doesn't matter how pretty it is if you take too long to throw it.
