There is a lot of talk about Barker playing as a true frosh. I fully support the best QB playing, but I have a hard time believing that Barker, as a true frosh, is the best option. I'd rather see Drew redshirt, get another year under his belt, and compete for the starting job next year as a RS frosh.

I just find it hard to believe that, with all of the QB's on the roster, he'd walk onto campus and start from Day 1. Traditionally that's not how you run an SEC program, even if it is one of the lesser programs within the conference.

I've always said the same - ideally he redshirts. I can't wrap my ahead around Drew possibly being the QB when the Cats roll into Baton Rouge. Crazy.

 

However, as Neal Brown said no QB has shown the inclination or ability yet to take over the spot. They're not in a spot where they can sit a kid if he's the best QB. It's not like AJ McCarron is returning. So, good or bad, it's possible. Not ideal but... it is what is is as some like to say.

Again, Pat has to learn how to get the ball out quickly. It doesn't matter how pretty it is if you take too long to throw it.

 

Can that be fixed? I often hear that complaint about players when they come in to college and it seems like the same complaint follows the kids around throughout their career. It's almost like it has to either be natural or fixed at a very, very young age to take hold.

Can that be fixed? .

 

I think Neal said PT is getting better at it but still needs it to get even quicker.

Sidenote: People probably get tired of me saying this but other than HHS fans there is no bigger PT fan than me. His maturity level is off the charts and he's a credit to his family, Highlands, and UK.

 

After his senior year when Drew was a sophomore they met at some awards ceremony. He didn't big-time Drew. Instead, he told him he'd help him any way he can. Now fast forward a few years and PT hasn't had the success he hoped for yet at UK and people are clamoring for the "next big thing" in Drew. Instead of PT saying "I'll show that kid" he has reached out and welcomed him , congratulated him on his success, and said he can't wait for Drew to get to UK so they can compete.

 

Says a lot about the kid. Hell, he's probably a future governor.

I think it is interesting that Towles even has a chance seeing as how there was no way he had a chance this year. I'd be happy to see Towles, Phillips or Barker as the starter. I'm hoping Whitlow's days are done as the starter. I'd like to see him on the field but not at quarterback.

I think it comes down to Barker or Phillips. If I had to guess, I'll say Barker starts.

i don't think they would have brought Barker in for a January enrollment if their thinking was to red shirt him.

I love UK football and we all love talking about the QB's but we better figure out who is playing left tackle first. If not, all of these guys will take snaps next season out of desperation/injury.

 

I think they will move Swindle there or hopefully maybe Meadows will be ready but I don't think he is quite there now.

I think if they are both even Phillips will start. Red shirt Barker this year then he would be in a better spot. If Barker is clearly better than the rest than I think he should start.

I think you may be correct, although it could just be them wanting to give Barker every opportunity to win the position. If Phillips (or Towles) beats out Barker, then you redshirt Barker and nobody was hurt by him getting an extra spring practice in.

My #1 disappointment has been how they have handled the qb situation. This is after I had total confidence in Neil coming into it. Whitlow is not a qb and every snap they give him there is a mistake. If Phillips or Towles can play at all then one of them should have been at least #2 last year and played while Max was hurt. Which brings me to Max, why on earth did you think you could be a SEC qb last year without having the off season surgery on your shoulder?!!!!

I think Reese Phillips starts in 2014 for the Kentucky Wildcats.

IMO Barker only starts if Phillips or Towles look very underwhelming. I don't care who you are, it's hard for a true frosh to play in the SEC. I'd rather they hold him out and if Towles or Phillips don't produce next year, give Drew the reigns as a redshirt frosh.
