January 9, 201412 yr Bonds, Clemens, Rose. All three are transcendent players, huge numbers, tons of awards, and the best of their era. Sure Clemens and Bonds might have done steroids (ok, probably did). But lots of others were doing so as well, and they were the best, and consistent of the users. As far as the others, Mcgwire was one dimensional, Sosa (who was the toughest to leave off) was great, but there just seems to be something missing, maybe not enough wow factor. And Joe Jackson, I just don't know enough about. It's hard to compare stats from the era he played in (for example, lot of guys hit for really high averages then). By all accounts he was a great player, I just don't know that he was great enough.

I seriously don't believe Clemens comes close to making the HOF without roids. I can't think of any player whose career (not one or two seasons) made a more dramatic turnaround in the steroids era than Clemens.

I was quite taken aback by his post streoids stats vs his non steroid stats. Would not have guessed the 'roids had the impact in him as much as it did.
January 13, 201412 yr I am surprised Sosa and McGwire, to a lesser extent, get the traction they do. They hit HRs. That was it. Swing from the ankles, up or down by 7 runs in the 9th inning meaningless home run collectors. I never had a lot of respect for them as players to begin with. Bonds Jackson Clemens
