St. Xavier 54 West Jessamine 52

Final from the Lake Cumberland Holiday Classic in Somerset, Pulaski County and Southwestern.

Nice job by X.

Saint Xavier guard Robert Shaw had 22 points; the final two points came in the form of a layup with two seconds remaining to give the Tigers the win.

He was named tournament MVP following the game.

Tigers off to their best start in many years at 10-1.

Shouldn't an all boys school be better than what X usually is. They should dominate with what they can get.

Not in Louisville. They are exactly where I would expect them to be basketball wise. You don't go to St. X to play basketball if you are a basketball guy.

I think the Tigers do a good job in basketball. There are outstanding bb programs in Louisville where the great players gravitate to. There are only so many to go around. The advantage X has in many sports is negated in bb because only 5 start and maybe 8-9play in any game. The program is gaining and on solid ground. It just needs a breakthrough season.

And I don't know how good people think they're supposed to be. They're probably the third best team in the Seventh Region right now and that's definitely nothing to sneeze at.

Ballard is the unquestioned top of the ladder and Trinity's number two because they have some absolutely outstanding players and a great system defense that can keep them in with anybody. Those two are both among the top three to five in the Commonwealth and St. Xavier's next in line. Not too shabby from the Tigers if you ask me.

Agreed.

I guess when you have an all boys school that means you should dominate in everything and that second or third place isn't good enough.

It will be interesting to see if Trinity's run over the last few years can keep going. The dropoff from their heralded junior class to the soph/fresh is HUGE. With the loss of soph Knight-Goff it will be interesting to see how things go after next year. I know that is projecting very far ahead and anything can happen but its pretty noticable if you have seen any JV/freshman games.

As others have stated, you only need 7-8 in basketball. X plays in toughest region and plays very well without having the best athletes.

So Louisville St. X's only loss was to CovCath? I didn't realize that. Impressive 10-1 start for the Tigers.

Getslow, do you have any idea what kind of schools Shaw will be looking at?

I saw his older brother play while he was at Seneca, and if the younger brother is anything like him talent-wise, there's going to be a spot on a collegiate roster available and it's going to come with a scholarship.

Good win for the Tigers. Impressive start to the season for X; they've had to replace a lot of experience and it's good to see young kids step up.

Saint X has averaged 17 wins over the last 5 years with the new coaching regime. That is a pretty good record in the 7th region considering there has been no D1 or D2 kids graduating out of the program. Heading into the New Year, Saint X is 10-1.
