Is the Highlands coaching search a sham?

For the record Jumper I plan on starting a thread about Highlands and you hit the nail on the head with part of my issues with them this year.

In short, this was not a typical Highlands team.

At first blush I would say this wouldn't figure into the equation at a public school but then again Tom Duffy moved on from Highlands...

I think you overestimate the "public school" aspect of it.

My understanding is that Dale places a HIGH value on loyalty and commitment. I don't care what your resume looks like if you can't be loyal and committed as a person. Dale isn't hiring you.

Cannot wait to read this one.

Dale is not the one doing the hiring anyway. I believe that Principal Brian Robinson has final say on who the new coach will be. Surely Dale will make recommendations, but Brian will make the decision. Curious to know if there will be a committee set up for this hire like there was for the basketball coach.

C'mon Clyde, catch up! :D

Keep fishing Guru. I know hits are way down but there is nothing to see here. Highlands lost in the finals on a forth and twelve with seven seconds. That's not the way HHS people like to end a season but it ain't broke. Next year Highlands will be Highlands again. They will be one of the best teams in the state and likely preseason favorite in AAAA. They will play the same tough schedule, win a bunch of games, and contend for the title.........again.

Practice what you preach.

First of all, "hits" (actually page views) are at an all time high.

Second, there was plenty to see with this Highlands team. As Highlands teams go, it was poorly constructed, but I will get into that later.

And we agree 1000% on 2014 Highlands.

The sham is that there has to be any pretense of a search. If Coach Weinrich has the endorsement of Coach Mueller and wants the job, it should be his with no search needed. Hasn't he been Coach Mueller's right hand man for years? He knows the job, the community, the Highlands system, and the kids. He lacks the proverbial head coaching experience-which can be huge. Where prey tell (sp?) should he get that? Knowing Coach Mueller would be retiring, should Coach Weinrich have left for another school? Why? He's a Highlands guy through and through. If he is passed over because of "lack of head coaching", then is there any reason or incentive to EVER remain/work loyally for a top program with the aspiration to be the head coach?? As a long time assistant coach myself, If Brian Weinrich gets passed over (esp for a fellow alum with head experience, and there are good ones out there), I see no reason for any aspiring head coach to stay anywhere more than a few years! He's earned the job!

What has this world come to? I just defended Highlands in a post on BGP...

Me, "Honey call the doctor and see if he can see me in the morning, my heart must not be pushing enough blood to my brain tonight"

Could be that partial clot has broken free and now your brain is getting the blood it needs to think rationally. :thumb: Welcome aboard friend. Now the key is to take one shot of blue coolaid a day for a week, to see if you can adapt to the change in thinking, if you can, then drink all you want because the coolaid flows freely in the fort. Trust me I'm a doctor!! J/K :lol2:

:lol2: I only drink Purple and Gold Kool-Aid...sometimes Cherry if it's available...I don't even like Blue Popsicles let alone Blue Kool-Aid.

You mean Highlands will be overrated all season again? :D

About 50 times. Specht is a special leader and has accumulated a lot of hardware in a much bigger pool. Steve, honestly, would be a great fit at Highlands if he was interested.

He has imperfections, as we all do, but he is a special football coach.

I'm sure the assistant will be fine, I mean it has all of the same selling points as Gene Bartow and Bill Guthridge. Both of them had been a part of a lot of championships too.

Apparently not special enough.

Awesome! I have been looking for a reason.

And that is a huge complement to the Birds....not a typical birds team and it takes a last second td to beat them in a state final by a Collins team that may be the best they see in the next 10 yrs.
