Rose Hill Vs. Ashland

Featured Replies

As far as the Euton's going to N. Carolina, I know that Clay has worked the past few years over the summer at Duke University's camp. I hope the whole gang hangs around for the next 4 years. I agree that just because you are from a small school doesn't mean you can't get exposure from D1 coaches. Especially in basketball. It seems like in football we are not getting too many D1 players from this region, but basketball players from this region do get some looks.

In this day and age, kids get noticed through play in summer leagues, camps, and AAU play. If you can play, they will find you.

I couldn't agree more. I hope that the kids in Tuesdays game get all the attention from schools that they all deserve. Once again, looking very forward to the game and can't really believe that this thread has stayed open for 4 pages. Perhaps we all can get along without throwing one another under the bus. :thumb:

I hope so also. :D

I'll bet you do!

I am new at this whole thing on BGP, but I wanted to throw in my two cents on this game. Although I would love to see a Rose Hill upset, I think that Coach Flynn will have his team "tournament ready" as usual. Rose Hill has arrived back on the scene a little quicker than everyone expected and if they keep their players (which has always been an ongoing struggle for Rose Hill..check area team's starters) than they will be a force to reckon with for years to come. I think their head coach has done an outstanding job this year and he should get some votes for 16th Region Coach of the Year. I will be at the game and looking for it to be close.

Rose Hill does have a decent record, but outside of the BC win they really dont have any victories against quality opponents. As far as coach of the year goes thats a two man race between Perry of Morgan Co. and Rex Cooksey of Fairview.

Rex gets my vote and Fraley would be runner-up. And as much as everyone would love to bash Flynn, if the Tomcats happen to win the district and do well in the region, how could you not vote for him? Not that Perry hasn't done a fine job, but to be tops in the region when you're expected to be doesn't necessarily mean he has done the best job. Just think the others have overachieved and are IMO more deserving.

Just for the record, we’re talking about a coach ( Tim Fraley ) who took over a program that had just lost ten quality underclassmen, basically the entire A and B team. His sanity was questioned by his colleagues. He took his lumps for two seasons, and patiently rebuilt a devastated program from the ground up. Regardless of what happens from this point forward, Rose Hill is ensured a winning season. Nobody expected them to do that this early, much less with three 8th graders starting and playing majority minutes.

I will grant you that RH’s overall strength of schedule this season is not close to the bruisefest Ashland endured this year, but when you consider performance against regional competition, RH has not fared that poorly. Rose Hill has competed in every game they have played, and have not been blown out of one game this year.

Primary credit must go to the kids giving up the effort on the court, but for a coach to achieve what Tim Fraley has done this season with a VERY young and inexperienced varsity team is truly a testament to coaching ability.

REX should get coach of the year and having Jeff Hall on his staff didnt hurt .Can anyone tell me who Rosehill did play or beat in the 16th region besides BC?

Where did you see Morgan predicted the favorite in the region? Most places I saw was 4th or worse.

I agree that Coach Perry and Coach Cooksey have both done outstanding jobs this year. And I also agree that Rose Hill's wins aren't all quality wins, however, they have had some close tough losses against teams they were not expected to hang with. The Boyd County win was a quality win, but you also have to figure in the emotional aspect of that night.

My point about Coach of the Year is that if you base it on the job that the coach has done with the talent he was given, then you have to consider the job that Coach Fraley has been one of the best in the 16th Region. If it strictly on wins and losses, then my vote goes to Coach Perry.

Having Jeff Hall may not have helped either, I believe the Eagles had some defections because of Coach Hall's presence. As far as 16th Region wins for Rose Hill, the Boyd County win was the 1st in a few years. They did beat Lawrence County earlier this year, which was a member of the 16th Region last year.

Defections or not Jeff can coach 2nd to none in this area. And I said any teams in 16 Region besides BC or any that a high school basketball fan in this area has ever heard of.

You mean except Ashland, Oh, I'm sorry, that's tomorrow night. :sssh:

And Jeff, he's a HOT commodity, folks beating down his door. C'mon, surely you aren't dillusional enough to think that he is better than ALL of those who already have head positions in our region?!
