I always thought it was Louisville, Lexington, NKY, Bowling Green, Owensboro, Paducah, and then insert county name.

 

One thing that irks me is people who live in Oldham County or Bullitt County and claim to be from Louisville. You are not even in the same COUNTY! You are not from Louisville, you are from Oldham County.

^ Heck as far as I'm concerned, if you live outside the Watterson, you're barely from Louisville.

I am from God's Country, Princeton. Most people I have talked with from central KY believe Kentucky ends at E-town. lol

Before becoming a Highlands snob in my mid-20s, I grew up between the loops, so it sounds like a fair compromise.

When I was younger I had a cousin move here from Santa Barbara and she came from a fairly well do background. I was only ten or eleven, she had to be sixteen or seventeen. Anyway, I remember her saying that there was people out there in California where she lived who thought we didn't even wear shoes. She was like yeah when I got here I was amazed because people said that you all didn't wear shoes or anything.

 

Then I remember her going to the movies with my mother and I (around same age) and it was when the movie Clueless came out. The part where they make the comment about getting married young and having kids and she says something like "what if this isn't Kentucky". I saw a big smile and chuckle from my cousin she obviously thought it was the funniest thing. The rest of the movie theater was not as amused.

I was going to post the exact same thing in the bolded above and you beat me to it. It's amazing how many people in KY think the world is flat and ends just past E'town. Now, as far as Princeton being "God's country". Well, that's a little more south west of Princeton, but hey, you're in the same area code.:lol2:

I've spent alot of time in Princeton, my second largest customer is in Princeton. Not sure I would go with God's country but it has gotten better since going wet. I will say I love Pagliais, some of the best pizza ever.

It's so heartbreaking. I always think, why us? I know WV get's their fair share, but most of the hillbilly hate is directed towards Kentucky and although we do have some low spots we are certainly no worst than most of the south. I would rather live in Kentucky than a lot of southern states.

I'm gonna have to disagree with that point. My experiences has taken me all across this state, with extensive time spent in EKy and SEKy, and I have found the general overall attitude toward Louisville is that of revision, as though it is some place to be avoided like the plague because of all its "big-city" problems. The interesting contrast is that of Lexington as some sort of Mecca just because of the college hoops team that resides there. Trust me, I've lived in Lexington and it's got its ugly side just like every other large city.

 

I have never once heard the guys I work with put Louisville down at all. They mostly talk about how good the hospitals are and the food. Some like the Cardinals and some like the Cats. I personally don't get the "Louisville is a bad place to live or the people or stuck up". There are idiots in Louisville just like the rest of the state. Now they do make EKY jokes only because a guy who works at our company married a girl from Harlan Co.

I gotta be honest...there're are just as many misconceptions from people "out in the state" about Louisville and Louisvillian's. You'd think this was the most dangerous city on Earth, that it's entirely unnavigable (is that a word?), that we're all uppity, that we're all doomed to an after-life in hell...I've heard a lot.
