^ Heck as far as I'm concerned, if you live outside the Watterson, you're barely from Louisville.

Before becoming a Highlands snob in my mid-20s, I grew up between the loops, so it sounds like a fair compromise.

I remember having a Kentucky Geography class in middle school where we had to learn all 120 counties and be able to label them on a map, I think we got 1 point for every county we got correct...very few got any bonus points for going over 100 counties correct. Teacher actually taught a skill that is diminishing more and more every day, the ability to read a road map. He would give us two random points in Ky and we would have to right down turn by turn directions along with the mileage traveled on each road. Sad thing is that the only place some people have ever seen a road atlas these days is in their dad or grandpa's car.

So what you're saying is, you are pretty much the navigator on any trip because no one else is going to want to touch your maps after this bit of information! :poop:

I have never once heard the guys I work with put Louisville down at all. They mostly talk about how good the hospitals are and the food. Some like the Cardinals and some like the Cats. I personally don't get the "Louisville is a bad place to live or the people or stuck up". There are idiots in Louisville just like the rest of the state. Now they do make EKY jokes only because a guy who works at our company married a girl from Harlan Co.

 

I talk to and meet people all over the state all the time for my job and I have noticed that people from east of Louisville are more likely to be that way about it than folks from west of Louisville.

 

Shelbyville though seems to really dislike Louisville. At least from what I can tell from our employees there.

I gotta be honest...there're are just as many misconceptions from people "out in the state" about Louisville and Louisvillian's. You'd think this was the most dangerous city on Earth, that it's entirely unnavigable (is that a word?), that we're all uppity, that we're all doomed to an after-life in hell...I've heard a lot.

 

Yep... "Out in the Staters" talk bad about Louisville on the regular. Having never been here.

 

On the contrary, most people I associate with who have been to Louisville, either through USF or professional affiliations, love the place.

 

There is a couple we know who are from New Jersey, parents of USF alumni. We travel with them to away games occasionally and have met them in Louisville several times for Bull/Card football games. They like to call Louisville, "A large city that feels like a small town."
