I don't think so. Highlands is smack dab in the middle of 4A if the numbers posted on here recently by DragonFire are accurate.

No, they sit comfortably in 4A...but Desales, CAL, Boyle, Bardstown, PT, Caldwell...will all have a say in it...not to mention the usual suspects Belfry and Central. Not saying Lex Cath won't be a dynasty...just saying that will be the toughest class in my opinion.

As DH said, Highlands sits smack dab in 4A right now, and I actually think they were closer to 3A numbers last go around than the new projections.

 

3A will be absolutely loaded, and not just 3A, but 3A West.

 

I think the likes of Corbin, Bell, etc. will go east this time around as they should, but 3A west side of things is looking at:

 

Tilghman

Ft. Campbell

Caldwell County (who isn't slowing down, they lose Sindelar, but some of their younger squads are dominating down that way)

Bardstown

Central

CAL

DeSales

LexCath

Boyle

....and, that's not counting the likes of Trigg County, Union County, E-town, etc)

 

(here is just guessing that LexCath and Boyle will likeley be in the West bc EKY will be heavy with 3A)

No you missed my point.The original comment was that Catholic would be foolish for not hiring Perry.All I am saying is that Lexington Catholic doesn't have to go begging for a good coach. If he is the choice he should feel flattered. His overall record does not jump out at you. By the way I was curious so I checked. Over the last 10 years Catholic has won 102 of its 135 games or 76% average without a single losing season. If Perry is the coach he will inherit a strong program with a strong returning lineup.

I didn't say anything about begging-you did, you made an assumption rather than just looking at what I said. Lex Cath would be foolish for not hiring him (a public school coach willing to give up retirement is asking ALOT, especially when he has proven he can win, and just coming off one of the best records in school history in 6A). That means he APPLIED for the job, not that anyone begged him. He is the Lexington Catholic Head Football Coach, done deal, the ink is dry. Never said anything negative about the program, it is a very good program...averaging a little over 7 wins a season is good.

No way that I could leave public school & the retirement for private school, UNLESS I retired first from public then went to private.... just too much on the line in my opinion. Sure everyone wants to win & win championships, but I want to retire when I still have something left in the tank & enjoy some time after the fact. You can look across the board in several sports where a public school guy gets pretty deep into his 27-30 years then takes a turn and does a stint in the private school sector & then realize they have to come back to reality to get full retirement and basically apply for everything under the sun to get them back into the public school system.

This post right here is why I would be extremely appreciative of Mark Perry taking over at Lexington Catholic if I was a part of that program. He's giving up a lot to be the head coach at Lexington Catholic. His committment should never be questioned.

I agree PurplePride92. Pushing all the chips to the center of the table does take a lot of commitment.

Unless he has dreams of bigger aspirations (i.e: college), which then this makes total sense. With his connections to UK and especially with the current staff. A couple good years at LexCath, and who knows what doors that opens up.

Let's not forget that Mark did the college thing before joining the high school ranks...wife and young kids...would think if he wanted back in the college game he could have done so already. OR...why not take a high school program that you could run as closely to a college program as possible without the sacrifices that a college coach has to make with his family?? Might be way off base, but that is my face value evaluation.

Harry Doyle & Dark Horse, I couldn't agree more. I just see what has happened with Chuck Smith but he had a lot more time into the public school system than Mark does. There are some colleges & universities in Kentucky where you can go & it pay into the teacher retirement system where you can finish out your time.... Something to keep in mind since I know that UK isn't one of those. I think about retirement a lot!

Has Coach Letton caught on anywhere? Everything has been pretty quiet or I have missed something entirely.

Last I heard he has not landed anywhere.

That's a shame...Bill is a good guy and a great ball coach. I hope he is on a sideline next season...would love to catch a few Friday nights and watch his teams play!

Perhaps Coach Letton does not want to coach right now and just want to watch and enjoy Sam play his last 2 season at Lex Cath. Just saying
