Dr's Ad in the Local Newspaper

Featured Replies

So much hogwash presented as fact on these political threads, 75. I just try to keep the discussion fact-based. I also should point out that the introduction of a thread topic is a statement in itself, regardless of whether the poster who initiated said statement offered comment.

What fact have you stated in this thread outside of calling a doctor names who was stating a reason why he is shutting his practice. Why would a doctor shut a practice down that was making money? It's obvious something changed to make the profit come down or lose money. He said it was obamacare and unless you have evidence to prove otherwise you are the one bringing a political bias to the discussion.

If someone else say Big Green Horse or McPapa had started this thread you would have taken it a completely different way...I posted it because I had never seen an ad like this. Do not assume you know what my motive was or wasn't. Politically I'm not 100% tied to any party or ideal...For example Lipton Bash and I agree on a great many things politically and there are some we are 180 degrees apart on. On social issues I am much more liberal than on fiscal issues.

I was also hoping that someone like Spindoc or others could enlighten the rest of us to how this legislation effects doctors.

I recently lost my Cardiologist because he closed his private practice to work only for the hospital and my father in law lost his General Practitioner for the same reason. I was also wondering how many people have lost their doctor over the last year due to a similar situation.

So what you are saying is there are some issues you are wrong on :sssh:

Another thing were 180 degrees apart on, there are some things your wrong on. That said I have been a fan of the Lipton brand for the last several years!

If anyone on here would know the true implications of Obamacare on physicians it's Spindoc....I'll take his word over the petty insults being hurled by the lemmings.

This. ^

The Gov't needs to stick with things they are good at....National Parks and Military, everything else......GET OUT OF THE WAY!!!!!

I'm taking this as you are my #1 fan

Assuming you get through med school and become a practicing physician, would you say it's still worth it? I mean the world will always need doctors, right?

I'm sorry hoops I must have overlooked this post. Well, I will say this, let's face facts. There are generally three groups of doctors IMO. You have those who are generally interested in the medicine. They are more interested in the welfare and care of people. Then you have those mainly interested in the lifestyle. The care is secondary. Then the largest group is a combination of both.

With that in mind, I think you'll see group one practice regardless. The other 2 groups, mainly the second will see a dramatic shift in numbers in the near future. The benefit isn't worth the effort when you weigh the costs.

Shop some of the new ACA plans and take a look at the network difference from current plans to those plans. I don't know what the actual # is in terms of the difference but it's significant. There is a reason Drs and Hospital are pulling out with some of the big dogs (Anthem, United, Aetna). Hate to see it come to this with some DRs but at some point it's just not worth it.

Since my wife can no longer work I am having to sign her and the kids up with the Kentucky insurance Kynect. She was an RN and we always were on her insurance. My work provides insurance at no cost to us. They always gave me a check each month for the cost of her insurance.

The insurance that I will have to get for them now has a out of network 25,000.00 deductible. It does not have Vanderbilt in the network.

Is Vanderbilt in Kentucky ?

The Gov't needs to stick with things they are good at....National Parks

The rest of the post notwithstanding -- as I'm not on board -- but I absolutely agree there. To quote Wallace Stenger: the national parks are "the best idea we ever had. Absolutely American, absolutely democratic, they reflect us at our best..."

Far more to this story than what the ad says. Good move on the doc's part, though, to blame his departure on the Affordable Care Act. Blame the government! Blame the government! Sizable percentage of readers will buy that.

It works for 47% of the population so why can't the 53% use that tactic?

Closest acute care and major trauma hospital to where he lives I would guess.

Another example would be when some advanced treatment is needed for patients along the Tennessee border in Ky, many times those cases are sent to Knoxville UT Medical Center as it is closer than UK or UL.
